Welcome to the brotherhood. Uh.....on a side note........uhmmm.....don't wanna take the wind out of your sails but that doesn't look like a Challenge.
Nice looking car. But...... I was waiting for someone else to say it........ It looks like it has the '348 Challenge' badge on the back, but thats about it. Can we get VIN or ID plate numbers maybe to confirm.......
Yeah I know. I didn't wanna rain on his parade, but I really couldn't let him think he was driving around in an actual Challenge. Kind of like when you have the fly on your pants down. Can't let a brother walk around with his fly open if ya catch my drift.
Congradulations, -now, remove the air compreser, reroute the oil through the condenser, add a rollbar, throw away the quite street pipes and straight pipe the exhaust, lower the car, stiffen the springs to 2500, plexiglass the rear glass, add 5 pt harnesses, fire extinguisher, tow hooks, CF seats, kill switch, lightweight bumpers, brake ducts, rear deck pull release, move the battery up front, and you are set to cruise in confort... Well, if Ron Tonkin's ad is correct, then this could be a factory challenge. However, I don't believe that RT is correct. I'm not an expert on this series, but I don't think a challenge car should have leather seats, glass windows or lack a rollcage. But this is just academic, because your new car is BEAUTIFUL 348Challenge. Peter
Not really. See here for more info --> http://www.redfcar.com/pages/Challenge/348challengeFAQ.htm Looks like this car was in Texas most of its life.
Not intruding into 348 country, but In 1994 34tb and 13ts came into the country as Factory Challenge cars...these were the street versions and not to be mistaken with the Race/Track models. You could order the "Race Kit" seperately to convert "street challenge" model into a "track challenge" car. Ron Tonkins and the 348challenge are in fact "Factory Challenge" cars.
348challenge, there is so little difference between the street and race versions I would only put on a set of CH wheels. You can still run almost equal to a full blown CH Race car and have the nice creature comforts they don't have.
Question?? A race legal 348 according to "Challenge Series" specifications/rules 1. Were they allowed to run a wing? 355CH's were not even allowed this until later on in series. 2. Could they run non-factory wheels like is on Juan-Manuel's car? The only thing I see in rule book and legal, were Ferrari wheels produced by Speedline. Interesting note: The 348CH Speedline wheels, althought they look like the 355CH Speedlines, are in fact different. Does anyone know the difference?
You couldn't remove the compressor, just the belt. Which ECU does your car have? You could change the ts/tb 7600rpm to the spider ECU which went to 7800rpm. Any combination of 348 shocks and 348 springs were allowed, rules just state that with both tires(front or rear) deflated no portion of the car could touch the ground. 2500lb springs? Do you have a factory PN? I could not find these in any production year/model....according to rules they would be illegal. 2000lb were the highest rate offered and that was only a 355CH option, they were only used in the front, which required a heavy duty front tub mod. that appears.....That 2000lb spring would cuase your Polid-Grip to fail if you hit a track curb....if it were a 2500lb spring it would have broken your seat mount and probably your back if you went into the ruff.
1. No. The 348CH was retired after the '96 series. They were never allowed to run with the wing in the series. I don't believe the 355 was using a wing in '96 either? 2. The original series started in '94. The 348 ran with stock 17 in. aluminum wheels. In '95 they were given 18 in. speedlines. I have never seen one with other wheels. My guess would be you had to use ones supplied by Ferrari to keep it uniform. 2+. I heard some on this site that you needed different bolts to mount CH wheels. Others have used spacers. I got mine from the original owner and they bolted right on with the stock bolts and no spacers. So, there might be a difference between 355 and 348 CH speedlines.
I don't want to bust any bubbles, but this is not a factory challenge. 1. they were only made in '94 2. they were only for the US market 3. they had color coded rear deck lid, not matte black. Most if not all euro cars were converted street cars by the dealer. This is an old post!!!
I don't know about the Euro market. In the US, factory challenge cars came as completely street legal cars. The only way to tell them from mere mortals was the factory installed roll cage mounting plates. Some people bought them and didn't even know they were special. Many, though not all, cars in the US came with a "serie challenge" badge. All were 1994 models, as stated above 32 TB's and 13 TS's. Research shows about half were actually raced in the challenge series. A challenge kit was sold and installed by dealers to prep the car for racing. It included a cage, race seats, brake cooling ducts, ignition cutoff and fire extingusiher among other things. It was my understanding that Ferrari sold "Competizione" models in Europe but as in many things Ferrari, I would not be surprised if they had challenge cars too. Dave Image Unavailable, Please Login
