    I really dislike the steering.

My 308's steering has much more feel.

    I'll order the strakes immediately.

Lol, believe you about the steering but not the strakes! Like them myself but they're not everyone's cup of tea.

You're not the first to say that about the steering, though. The 348's is really precise, arguably more so than any of the other strictly road going models by all accouts. Its the only bit of the 355 that I never really got. The engine scream is great, can't argue with dampers if you want the handling a little more tame. Aerodynamics under the car are a bonus. But I can't for the life of me work out why they butchered the 348's steering by taking all, or at least a good deal, of the feel out of it. Yes its easier to park but its a sports car for crying out loud. Surely the feel driving through a mountain pass is more important than the feel in the supermarket car park.

Wasn't a manual rack offered in the 355 early on? I'm guessing nobody bought it so they stopped offering it. Either way, you do realize it's pretty easy to depower a rack, right? If you can adjust the suspension on a 348 to make it handle well, there's no reason you can't pull the rack on a 355 and depower it if you want the feel.

Let it go man, there's no reason for justifying your car preference. Be happy people don't want the 348, more for you. If you're hanging your hat on the lack of power steering as what makes the car so great, it's a flimsy to nonexistant argument as anyone with a 355 can pull their rack and de-valve it and get even more feel than the 348... I like the 348 but the arguments put forth here border on the dellusional.

Apparently so, but I've never seen or heard of one without power steering. Has anyone?

...so by 2013, he'll be as big of a 348 fan as I am. ;)

    All the best,

Sorry mate but completely and utterly the wrong way round. Sorry but it is. Any comments about the 355, as I've said on countless occasions are tongue in cheek. The ONLY criticism I'd say about the 355 is the feel of the steering. I found it the case when I drove one but I was only saying it as a comment that some 355 owners have made, Pete included, as well as the odd road test. I think the 355 is a great car. I think the 308 is a great car as is the 328. Thing is I think the 348 is a great car too. When I started this thread it was absolutely not a my car is bettter than the others thread. It was merely to point out that many of the criticisms of the 348 are unfounded. I possibly could have bought a 328, loved the styling, or a 355, really nice car overall, but I chose a 348. I don't have to legitise that choice, I love my car, but I'm not mad and not delusional. It was based on driving all 3. Something many don't bother to do before putting the 348 down.

Everyone who says 'have driven a 348 and it really isn't for me!' Great no problem. Thing is when I first came on FChat as well as a forum back here in the UK there was a lot of 348 bashing but almost all of it wasn't actually based on experience. I don't want to convert the masses to 348hood, quite the opposite. It is not for everyone. What I simply wanted to do was open the debate and have it on a slightly more even footing. The 348 isn't better than its siblings, its just not vastly inferior either.

Thanks Andrew, I hadn't seen that thread before

Nicely said Pete, though you can't blame anyone for having a go, you do sound a little evangelical.

Not that I mind, I like reading the discussion, started a similar one some time ago, but about the positives not negatives (and I do believe I encouraged you to start this thread in the 1st place)

Like the Evangelical comment, may be coz I've got an Honours degree from Oxford University in Theology! (and sociology, psychology and philosophy thrown into the mix) Old habbits (no pun intended) die hard. For those who aren't familiar with Oxford it's kind of like the Ivy League only with history :) Also why it makes me smile when people use massively complicated sentenses on forums. I used to have to use long words in essays etc. Now I just try to keep things simple. Each to their own though. I do understand long words though. Well some of them.....

Had a 1995 348 TS for 9 years (14,000 to 55,000 miles) Drove the car hard and lived in NYC and Miami - ignore the little things - gooey dashboard if left in the sun - sensitive air conditioner condenser - I bought 2 - and key system - I bought 2 - and that anything done to the car was expensive - it's a Ferrari for goodness sake - straight line perfection - top speed 158 - could never get it above 160 - with Bridgestone tires - control and braking was near perfect - with Pirelli tires the back end would brake loose unexpectedly - steering - perfectly responsive - whenever there was prefect road grip - the car could almost out drive all but 360's and turbo porches in traffic (highway racing - though dangerous and illegal - very fun) even the AMG Benz 550 could not out handle the 348, but was very competitive - and now the best part - third and fourth gears from 60 to 130 there was nothing like it - though the 360, 430 and 458 generations take that concept to the next level - you will enjoy the 348 immensely - most 355 owners that i spoke to wanted to trade for my 348 - Enjoy

Will enjoy. Gladly I have a runway handy for high speed driving so will not have to irritate the local constabulary too much. The local police actually do their high speed driver training on a disused part of my airfield so I could always get them to join in if I fancy a bit more 'realism'. Actually think they would say yes. Things like the sun on the dash and air conditioner, I don't need to worry, I live in England. As for the rest, I'll sit back and wait from the howls of derision from our 355 brethren. Glad you enjoyed your 348 ownership, I intend to enjoy mine.

Hi all, bit off topic but just thought I'd 'share'. I've got an iphone 4s and just recieved notification of an update to IOS 5.0.1 The last item on the update is "Improves voice recognition for Australian users". Is this a bit like saying it didn't understand what the #%^* you were saying before? They might have even added words like G'day and Sheila. Sorry guys just made me smile.
