Well the service manager is an IDIOT! All the service manager is, is a glorified secretary. He books the appiontments for the guys that work on the cars, the MECHANICS! I highly suggest you go elsewere to get your Ferrari worked on. Or better yet start turning your own wrench.
I have no idea what the guys IQ is, whether he is ASE certified and if he was ever a mechanic previous. I do not know if this is the sort of position you work your way up to, starting at oil changes or is this the type of position where no mechanical experience is needed, just a calm disposition to deal with P*SSED off customers who's economic level usually means they get what they want when they want it. I'm thinking the average Enzo customer is use to being yessed to death all day and heads roll when he is unhappy, so it is probably stressful.
I actually don't want to bash individual service advisors... I'm sure that guy is a nice guy who was only trying to help. That said, when I think of service advisors in general, the term "glorified secretary" fits brilliantly.
I did the electrical connections and for my trouble now the check engine light is on on BOTH sides, so two steps back.
The same, O2 sensor. Ferrari is replacing both of them Thursday. And I am starting to wonder about the service manager's qualifications as he seems to be confused half the time, whatever, just hand me the parts and I'll fix it out in front of the place, that'll be a good advertisement!
I made a thread on self-diagnosis of the Ecu's of EU version 512TR's because of the same problems ... have a look here: http://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/boxers-tr-m/331907-512-trecu-selfdiagnosis.html
Better check the MSDS......that contact cleaner is some pretty nasty stuff. Make sure you wear gloves and lots of ventilation and keep your kid away from the stuff.
Wow, FerrariChat is awesome. I'd like to thank all the contributors on this thread for instilling knowledge in me resulting in solving my idle surge and eventual check engine light issue. I'm a whole 3 days into 348 ownership, and have been driving it quite a bit with a huge grin of course. So I wash my car on day 2, then a bit later the issues I mentioned. This thread (and 2 other similar ones) quickly taught me where the ECUs are, how to pull the codes (piece of cake), what the codes mean, and then how other folks have resolved. Long story short I had codes 1211 & 1212 Lambda Regulation blah blah blah. A search of this quickly taught me to try cleaning the MAF sensor connections. 10 minutes later I find myself driving & stretching the test drive to 20 minutes with no idle surge and no check engine light. Takeaways for me: keep electrical connections clean & dry. Don't point the water hose nozzle at the deck lid, rather wipe it with a wet cloth/soap, wipe clean & dry. And by the way, wow are there a lot of nooks & crannys on this car when washing it!
Use air compressor and an air hose to blow it out it helps quite a bit. Or a leaf blower. Also take a copper wire brush and brush the ground cable surface and the car mount points. On mine the cables were mounted ahainst painted surfaces. I added an engine to chasis and thicker oil tank ground. The very slight almost imperceptible stumble is gone now. Good luck and enjoy! Ohh If you cleaned your maf or the connections you may want to consider checking the ohms and possibly resetting but definitely resetting ecu either way. Sent using FerrariChat.com mobile app
