Guys, Any advice on the pressure plate? Looks like a little nibbling on the fingers by the throw out bearing. I will attach a photo. Sent from my iPhone using FerrariChat.com mobile app
That's shot. I think it can be rebuilt though the diaphragm is replaceable. If it was me I would replace the whole clutch pack and avoid tolerance issues and other problems, this too thick, that too thin, clearance, or new diaphragm too soft etc.
The throw out bearing is completely shot. Not broken as in Ernie’s write-up, but if you rotate it is just sounds like it is full of sand and pebbles. Sent from my iPhone using FerrariChat.com mobile app
I am doing new Hill TOB and plate and new clutch this winter and repacking the voith so I don't have to worry about it again. It all seems fine but I don't want to even think about it 300 miles from home. Best prices are from Superformance. How is your flywheel?
I have the Hill Engineering Flange and Bearing. Ferrparts was good at getting some of the supplies but Ricambi bailed me out on missing seals. I haven’t broken down the pumpkin yet. Tomorrow morning will be a bit of call arounds to see what I can get delivered in a reasonable time. May as we’ll bite the bullet and go thru the pumpkin and do the job the right way. I will add, this is a much easier clutch than my M3. : ). I haven’t had to jack up the 348 at all. : ) Sent from my iPhone using FerrariChat.com mobile app
Exactly! Many thanks for the valuable collection of tips and videos. Very helpful! Ernie’s writeup was excellent. Sent from my iPhone using FerrariChat.com mobile app
In the 3-part video series (replacing the triple seals), does anyone know what the final resting height should be on the pressed-in seal o. The rear of the flange should be? I have not removed the old flange yet, was prepping the new flange by Hill Engineering. I own a 12 ton press and used a pair of pieces of plywood on each side to protect it (also did not use all 12 tons of pressure). The seal was fighting me for a while. It would ‘pop’ back up on one side (about 1 millimeter). I ended up smearing a little engine assembly lube along the exterior (patiently applying to my finger and rubbing it under) and then left it in the press for 5 minutes. It has seated evenly now, but it sits like it has a lip (not flush) with the back of the flange). Looking to see if anyone knows what normal is. Sent from my iPhone using FerrariChat.com mobile app
I have to give a shout out to Daniel at Ricambi. I'm looking to get this back on the road ASAP before my driving season is over (I live in New Hampshire). Daniel has been super helpful at sorting the parts and getting expedited shipments up to me. Look forward to getting the bundle early next week so I can rebuild the clutch assy in the pumpkin.
Anyone familiar where I could purchase the Renault M8 Torx for a clutch job on my 348? I’m almost thru the job, need to separate for kluber and get the flywheel resurfaced. Sent from my iPhone using FerrariChat.com mobile app
I have found that in the US, they call it a Torx Plus bit. Great writeup here: https://www.stanleyengineeredfastening.com/-/media/web/sef/resources/docs/other/torx_plus_brochure.pdf Local access to the tools is a bit of a hassle. Mostly online sales. Checking with a few tool trucks in my area. Anyone have experience with a T45 Plus instead of the M8 that is specified in the MD5clutches video? Sent from my iPhone using FerrariChat.com mobile app
I thought sears and most auto parts and even jomedepot carried Torx Plus? Sent using FerrariChat.com mobile app
It's probably a Ribe bit, not a Torx bit. Difficult to get unless you go to a tool store for a whole kit.
I was able to secure a Lisle Torx Plus kit and tapped in a T45 with a soft mallet. Worked perfectly. Sent from my iPhone using FerrariChat.com mobile app

Only .008” needed to be taken down to true it up. There is only about .03” difference between my clutch disk and the new one from Ricambi. Sent from my iPhone using FerrariChat.com mobile app

I ground them down so avoid contact with the inspection threads and I tapped the jig to reduce the number of items (I had nuts and washers if needed). It worked very well. Image Unavailable, Please Login This is what very old Kluber grease looks like. I am happy to have chased this versus having issues down the road. This stuff smells awful! Has anyone had Kluber grease look this bad? Sent from my iPhone using FerrariChat.com mobile app
First, I never needed a jig to separate the damper. Two bolts to push it out is all I need so I do not know what the jig is supposed to do. Second, all the dampers I have ever worked on have grease that looks like that. It's not the color you should worry about, it's how much grease you have in there. Yours looks to be a little low.
