I'm looking at getting a 348 in the next few months. I've done some research, but have a couple of questions.

    1. CLUTCH

How can I identify if a 348 TS/TB has a single plate or dual plate clutch? Is it possible to identify it from the chassis number?

The reason I ask is that I've read that Dual plate clutches are much more expensive to replace than the later single plate ones. I've also read that the Dual cutches can be replaced by a single clutch version from a 355. Is that possible?

    2. SUSPENSION

How can I identify 348 TS/TB with the updated suspension?

    Thanks.

I understand that suspension changes were made from chassis no. 92100 on.

Not sure there was a set time when the clutch was changed, it appears to be a bit random. Dual plate clutches are double the price of the singles, but converting from one to the other is expensive as you would need the matching flywheel.

This has been covered a lot in the past - do a search and I'm sure you will find more info.

I understand the suspension was updated in the late 1990 model year. I have a late year 1989 and it has the dual plate clutch as indicated by the shop order for replacement that came with the car's paperwork (history). Check out the previous work orders, the dual plate clutch parts were about $2900 two years ago. The total for parts & labor was just around $4000.
