I have to change clutch after 31000 miles.
Do I have to buy a complete assembly or can I just change the parts needed?

How do I get the gear box out? Do I have to take out the radiator and stuff at the back?

The battery is behind the left wheel. How do I get the battery out?

Any help at all would be appreciated.

First of all welcome to Ferrarichat. Since you are new I will let you know that just about every question you have about a 348 as already been discussed at on time or another. So if you use the search button first that should provide you with the information you are seeking.

Here are two links that came up using the search function.

    Happy wrenching.

Just to answer the simple question, you get the battery out by taking off the left rear wheel and removing the wheel compartment liner. Then the battery is right in front of you and available for changing out, etc... The clutch I have seen for sale (if your battery is in the back, you might very well have an early 348 with the dual disk clutch). I think the clutch cn be resurfaced but most people just change the whole unit out. I don't think you need to remove the radiator or any cooling system components.

The 348/355 clutch is probably the easiest clutch in the world to replace. You do not have to remove radiators ect..... I did mine in Febuary this year. Never having done it before. I had the clutch removed from my 348 in around 30mins. Simply remove the bottom muffler, the 2 starter motor bolts and then the 6 nuts that hold the pumpkin on. I also removed the airbox. Remove the pumpkin and its another 6 bolts to remove the ring gear and clutch assembly. Simple as that. Here a few pics of my clutch and pumpkin assembly and my special tool to remove the flywheel from the pumpkin. My clutch is the dual disc type, December 1991. The links ernie posted are also very helpful. Get in there and get dirty and have a go. Very very easy to do. Here are 2 links to my clutch job. Enjoy! :)

Hi Ben. I just replaced the friction plate in mine (£210GB new or £35GB rebuilt) - the cover (pressure plate) was is perfect condition. Took about 2 hours to do (never done it before). My car has a Valeo single plate clutch (later 348 with battery in the front, I'm guessing yours is the same).

    Chris.
