I'm considering purchase of a 348 and I plan to do my own PPI. I am wondering if there is anything special about compression testing it. I understand I should remove all plugs, disable the fuel pump and have the throttle wide open during the test. Is there anything else I need to know? How hard is it to get to the spark plugs?

Plug access is pretty easy, they're right there (unlike my 993...dohhh)

tb being opened or closed, it made no difference to me.. your not looking for the most air, you looking to see if they are all close together, so whatever you do, do it for all of them.

Make sure your compression tester comes with a bunch of adapters for various spark plug sizes, because the 348 plugs are very skinny. My tester only had adapters for the standard 2 plug sizes, so I had to buy another adapter piece to fit the 348 plug holes.

Test should be done with throttle wide open. It does matter. Yes, you want consistence but you also want to know that the pressures are in the correct range. See the table at the end of this document for estimates of what the pressure should be for the specified compression ratio. http://www.healey6.com/Technical/Nominal%20compression%20pressure.pdf
