Started my car 2 days and heard a crackling sound coming from the engine. Like a loose plate or something, which after the car stabilized the sound also stopped.
The car runs fine, no other issues. I have no idea what this could be. Pls help

What side is the noise coming from? or front or rear of the engine?

Is the sound like a metallic object vibrating or plastic?

Tough call my friend, pop open your engine cover & use a torch to look around & under. Look for any lose nuts or parts, maybe some fresh metal part.

On my TR, I found a metal plate grinding my exhaust pipe when I did a high speed drive, the hot pipe expanded & hit the body part which starting grinding like a chain saw!

The cracking sound you hear is your headers. They are cracked through the heat shield. Probably need to replace both. Price about $9000.

    Good luck

    Probably you already check that..

Did the noise sound similar to sticking a couple of poker cards into a fan?
Do you see dark smoke coming from your exhaust?

    Is your idle rough?

I have a 355 and have had similar sounds on 4 occasions:

    1) Broken exhaust clamp
    2) Broken air box bracket
    3) Loose heat sheild
    Latest) Broken radiator fan

    Hope this helps!

Thanks guys. But I think the closest could be the exhaust shield. Its like a mettalic rattle. The idle on the car is fine and there is no black smoke (guess that would mean something nasty!) After 1 min or so the sound completely went away. PAP : feel its at the complete rear of the car. Hope its not a warning for a belt failure?

The rear you mean like the tail lights rear or your car? Nah you wouldn't think its a belt failure if the noise is towards the rear of the car when all the belts are all hidden in the front of the engine.

Hopefully thats all that it is, have a look there are only about 10 nuts holding the 2 exhaust sheilds down in the engine bay a few are tricky to see but have a feel around and give them a good shake, you might want to shake the battery cover also while you are there.

Hope this helps you out :D
