Sorry, my files were too big to post pix couple of questions: 1)The heat shield above the engine is torn up - is that an easy fix? 2) I like the shields are the new thin ones the best? 3) I'm undecided about painting/removing the black on the lower body 4) I like the 360 wheels - is there mods involved?
Congratulations!!! Red exterior, red carpets and tan seats is a very nice color combination. Enjoy! .Mark
First of all, welcome to the Brotherhood. Yes it is nothing more than fiberglass. I hade a new one made for $20 at a friends shop. Then I spray-painted it silver. I also put heatsheild material on the bottom of them to help block the heat more. If I were to get the metal ones, I would go with the thin. But I currently have the raised sticker type on my car. They were only $8 from the dealer. My car is also a '90 ts. I had the roof, lowers and the top of the engine cover painted body color. But the paint is already body color under the black along the bottom. All you have to do is have the black wet-sanded off to get to the color under it. No, not really. Some have put spares on to widen the wheel off set. But as far as I know the are a direct bolt on.
Mike, congratulations on your 348! Are you talking about the foam insulation pad on the underside of the engine lid, or the heat shield above the muffler? If you mean the foam pad, you might want to take a look at this old thread, just for some ideas. (Note: in the old archives, threads start at the bottom). The repair job that I did back then is still holding together just fine. Apparently the dealer wants somewhere above $250 for new foam pieces!!! http://70.85.40.84/~ferrari/discus/messages/256120/202509.html
Beautiful car!!! Be sure to drive it...And often!! Hook up with the fellow F-chatters around Atlanta and have a blast. Also, if you are ever in the Greenville, South Carolina area and want a quick drive up to the twisties, look me up. My 348 Spider is always ready and willing!! -Jay
Foam stuff on the engine lid cover? Don't waste your money at the dealer (or buying the OEM Ferrari stuff from me... it's a waste!) Go to JC Whitney and get this stuff, plus their adhesive. It works perfectly! http://www.jcwhitney.com/autoparts/Search?catalogId=10101&storeId=10101&sku=ZX017643R+&searchbtn.x=7&searchbtn.y=5 http://www.jcwhitney.com/autoparts/ItemBrowse/c-10101/s-10101/p-100000328427/mediaCode-ZX/appId-100000328427/Pr-p_CATENTRY_ID:100000328427 ... and welcome to the Brotherhood!
congrats! & welcome bring it to Road Atlanta this comming weekend. I will be there Sat. & Sun. in my 348
That red carpet rocks! Now go drive that bad boy. Welcome to the Brotherhood. Oh yeah, here's the 348 New Owner's Primer (now you too can know all of the 348's secrets): http://webpages.charter.net/aircover/348/1994Ferrari348Spider.html
Congrats Mike! I do have to agree with everyone else those red carpets are the best!! 360 wheels are nice, but look into the 355 wheels before you make a final decision.
Very nice car Mike ! Although mine is completely red, I would think it over to leave the lower bodywork black... But don't forget to put the 25mm spacers on when you leave the original wheels. Huge difference in looks and performance / stability.
Mike, I have 360 wheels..They are a direct bolt on...They will increase your track width by 15mm in the front and 42mm in the back. Use your same wheel bolts that are on your car now. If someone put spacers on your car, you will not use those with the 360 wheels.
I have 360 wheels on mine also. You will have to get shorter bolts for the rear (55mm I think.) check my profile pic & T Mobile Guy profile pic. to see what they look like.
As a purist, the black looks awesome - so very few 348's have the boxer paint left. But really, - do what turns your crank, and welcome to the 348! There's a couple 348's here in Vancouver that would get a kick from seeing a close relative. Congrats - and may all your repair bills be less than $1k - ha ha
I owned a 348ts 1990,did the paint update to the lower panels and the engine bonnent. Also changed to chrome horse on the rear grille and added a chrome horse to the front grille. The rear heat insulation on my car was bad also.Replaced it with hood insulation with silver finish. It's called Hoodliner and is sold by Crutchfields.Easy to install if hood is removed and support rails unbolted, just cut to fit and self stick.Have since sold the car and now have a F355 Spider.
