Does anyone have any DIY information on removing the inside door panel and fixing a troublesome inside door release lever? I really have to pull hard on the inside lever to get it to open the door. I feel like one of these times it's going to break. The outside push button works fine. Any help would be great. Thanks.

Thanks. Lots of good information, but I'd like to know what's causing the inside door handle to be hard to open without rebuilding everything.

My guess would be that the braided release cable between the inner handle and the latch has started to fray and is binding in its housing (sheath). If so, it will eventually snap in half. Not terribly difficult to replace if you can do it in a nice warm garage.

I'm in SoCal, it's 68 degrees today and 72 tomorrow. ;-) However, if you have any extra rain up there, we'll take it!

Will it hurt anything if it breaks? Where do I get a new cable? (Sorry, I'm new)

It has been years ago, but it seems to me that I made a new cable using bicycle parts. I haven't looked, but I would think that Ricambi stocks these, it is not an uncommon problem.
    It 's Ferrari part #62110500. TAV 120, item 21.

    Hi Randy,

Just came across this post. It's rare that I can "give back" to this community, but when I read your I thought I could help, as I wrote a thread on this subject.

Then I noticed that Mike already posted my thread above !

There is a cable which goes from the inner door handle to the lock. If you take the door trim off (but not the inner door) there is a hole just before the inner door latch. This hole allows you to adjust the tension of the cable.

Beware however that these cables have a tendency to break. If you look at post 163 (Page 9) you can see where it broke on mine, and the PO hacked it to fix it. This hack is common, as the cables are unfortunately not cheap to replace...

The other point I would make is this. 3 weeks after I bought my 348 I went out with my daughter, and when I got home the passenger door wouldn't open anymore. This is a nightmare, as you have to disassemble the door, in the manner described in the post, without opening it. This is nearly impossible as some of the screws are on the inside of the door which you can't access, and you end up breaking things to get it apart.

So what I did, was totally dissemble the door and try to restore all the pieces. (I also did the window etc).

I should also point out that, although my post is very detailed, don't be put off by this. The time it took to post the pictures was 10 times it took to do the work. You can get the door apart in 20 mins...

Good luck - happy to help if I can.

    Jason

I replaced my cable by pulling the "cheese grater" of the exterior of the door, 4 bolts 2 screws. All the access you need to replace. I would thing going from the inside would not have as easy of access.

I just went through this last month. Everything is pretty simple. If you've ever pulled a door panel on any car, this will feel familiar. My cable was just super rusty and froze. I had a friend clean it at his motorcycle shop. I'm guessing I'm still on borrowed time so I'll replace it with bicycle components when it snaps. I contacted Ricambi and they did not have the cable in stock.

I would clean and lubricate the cable before it snaps. I removed the door panel and cheese grater. I don't think it is absolutely necessary but I like the extra room and visibility.
