Key slides into key hole no problem - this is not a personal issue! Drivers side - when I turn the key L or R no resistance = no locking or unlocking Passenger side - door knob goes down to lock, pops back up within 3 secs. Need step-by-step on how to remove door panel & get things fixed. Right now, I can't lock it = No driving! FEEL MY PAIN? Thanks!
Your driver side door isn't fully closing. If one door isn't fully closed, the locks will go down for you and then pop back up. Ferrari calls it the Monica feature. Ba dum bump. It might also be a faulty lock-logic unit under your passenger fuse panel.
Patrick; You may have a broken plastic linkage piece on the back of the lock cylinder on the driver's door. This would explain why there is no resistance when you turn the key, and it is a fairly common problem. Be prepared for a shock when you go to purchase this piece - it's a tiny piece of plastic, worth about a dollar, but you can't get it without buying a lock repair kit, which I believe is over $100. There have been threads about this in the past, I'll see if I can find it. The inner door panel can be removed with basic tools, again, there are good instructions here. Or the outer door panel (the "strakes") can also be removed in just a few minutes, and actually gives better access IIRC. Edit: From an earlier thread, here are the contents of the "lock repair kit", item #7000655, cost approximately $140 from the dealer. It's the little red piece that breaks. It's also at least possible that the linkage arm has simply popped out of its socket. Image Unavailable, Please Login
Miltonian and No Doubt- Thanks for your replies. The key has no resistance and the lock will not go down on the drivers door no matter which way I turn the key. Nothing electrical happening at this time. VERY HAPPY! Agree that the linkage must be off; didn't know about this little red piece. I'll find out the exact problem when I take the door apart tomorrow. Hopefully Daniel has these parts vs. having to go to FCI. A possible add to the Ferrari 348 page? That page prior to its being moved (I can't find it now) is brillant! It was a huge positive factor when being on the fence about buying the 348. Keep up the great work and thanks friends!
In case you don't have a Parts Book, this is what the lock mechanism looks like. Image Unavailable, Please Login
You need to remove the door panel and take a look. When I had my 91 it was just the C clip popped off / wore out! Total cost 19 cents and 8 hours my labor. See diagram above #31 second from the left. Dave
Here's the door lock "ecu" in case you need to go that far in your repair (#3 in the diagram below and Ferrari part #139522): Image Unavailable, Please Login
Gotta love the F brothers and how they spring into action to help another brother!! Image Unavailable, Please Login
This kind of advice would run $500+ at the dealership with no guarantee the lock would work relaibly/consistently. Hopefully it's just the clip! I'll write back once finished to let everyone know. Gotta Luv the Brotherhood!
Finally got down to the real issue. Sorry no pics...digital camera on the fritz. Anyway.....took off door panel, everything ok, plastic piece and clip in good shape. Removed window and the back of the lock mechanism has a plate that's just cracked. Wore-out; fatiqued metal. Possibly I should lay-off the spinich. Anyway, part on order, should have it back in shape for a weekend drive!
I got a similar issue, sometimes the dirver's side will not lock, when I turn the key to lock, it makes a lot of noise, its trying really hard to lock, but it doesn't.. so I left it unlock, next time it locks ok? weird.. it happens about 50% of the time.
Better late than never Those little red parts are available in stainless-steel from: P&T Engineering (714) 850-1266 Should outlast the rest of the lock mechanism. Image Unavailable, Please Login
