I will replace original head unit and speakers of my 348 and I'm just about to buy new ones. I'm not able to check the size of original speakers until next week so used F-chat search to find out the size. Somebody posted that original door speakers' diameter is 6.5" but has somebody check the "depth" of speakers? Just to make sure that new ones won't touch i.e. window mechanism.

The speakers that came out of my 91 348 measure approximately 63 mm or
    2 5/8 inches. Dave

there is not too much you can install in that small area, i used jl audio component speakers ..602? i think that is the number .
im about to try to install 2 subs behind the seats , kenwood has a powered sub sw1 . that is 15 3/4 x 9 x 3 3/4 . either the shelf area , or fasten to the back of the seats. check back to see if it works! ive been all over trying to fit subwoofers in this thing .! the trunk is too far away from cockpit for my liking, when i tried to install a sub there.

The biggest I could get in my doors were 6" Ground Zeros, good speakers but still pretty useless when the roof is down, which is most of the time. Go to a decent hi-fi specialist and they will be able to put a sub into the side kick plate in the footwell and then cover it back up with the carpet like it was never there. There is a superb place in Manchester SQ Plus, that R&D Automotive use. They actually have a glassfibre moulding to do this very job with.

Thx! I will start to find what could be the best option for me, I think it's the best that I remove the old system first. I will install these by myself because I really enjoy it and it's good way to see whats under interior panels. F-car engine music is the best what I know (althought I still haven't got Tubis...) but sometimes would be nice turn on other kind of music as well.
