348 downshifting problems

I just have my 30,000 service (New transition fluid) and I was hoping that downshifting from 3ed to 2nd and 2nd to 1st would be easer. From 3ed to 2nd is not that bad, but 2nd to 1st is real hard. I found that if I press down on the stick shift and downshift it does into gear much easy. The car has always had this problem. Going through the gears works great, except from 2nd to 3ed if you put a little pressure on the stick before you put in the clutch it will pop into neutral. Getting into reverse I have no problems.
Any suggestions
