348 drive shaft dust boot replacement?

I need help with replacing the inner CV boot on the 348. I foolishly thought it would an easy task like on my Porsches. When I undid the 6 bolts I found a metal cap covering the C V joint. Is the inner joint retaind by a snap ring or circlip under the metel cover? Is this cover a flip off affair? I don't want to bugger something that was never meant to come off. Thank Guys. Mike
