Shouldn't see why you couldn't buy one and install it, my brother has one is his car which was a single din size Alphine CVA-1000 headunit. With the screen fully retracted it didn't protrude past the headunit case so with the ample amount of room behind the cover I would say that yeah no worries go for it.............but be carefull of the depth as audio-visual headunits are usally alot more deeper than the standard and you might run into dramas with your air-con ducting behind it when you install it ;)

Let us know if you go ahead and purchase one :D

Here is a quick pic of my brothers install. The screen is retracted below the equalizer :)

the problem in the 348 is the radio doest sit flat, ie it points more to the footwell than the front of the car in simplest forms.

so when the screen comes out its going to hit the dash, not sure if you can program the sceens on these things not to flip out all the way, i reckon i need just over half way you see, then not sure if i'll have to take the stereoe cover off the car

Yeah his was fully programmable, You could select 5 positions for the screen to sit. I'm sure that you would have the space to install it, I know the radio does sit on a slight angle towards the footwells as mine does also and yes you are right about the screen having the sit at least half way to veiw the picture ;)

Ask your installer about it if you are still keen but don't forget about the depth of the unit and your air con ducting in behind the dash :)

    Hi gang,
Is it allowed to have a DVD or TV IN THE FRONT of the car?
I mean:a place where the driver could look at it while drivin'?
DVD sceens in the headrest are allowed here, but when you've got a front mounted screen,it has (officially) to be turned away from the driver....
BTW,Ferrari's are ment to be driven....not to be a movie theater...
I had a very expensive system in the 308,but I never ever looked into it while drivin'...
I went several times into the garage in the evenings(when I was off Ferrarichat ofcaurse!),and just went into the car to listen to some high quality music...never ever while drivin'!
In the Mercedes I do look at movies, and even finish them while driving on cruise control, becauz this car accelerates from 0 to 60mph/100kph in seasons, not seconds....the F-cars are a little faster, and are requiring some attention from the driver, especially when you drive like I do...
Be sure you definitly want a DVD system in the Ferrari, before you spent some hard earned money...
As I said:I never ever looked into it in the 308...!!
BTW the engine sound always better than the best HIFI in a Ferrari!

I would think it could work if your DVD system has the screen that flips down instead of up. You might need to shim the unit forward so the screen will come out past the recess that the radio normally sits in. Most systems have between 3-5 'open' positions programmable into the unit. I would try the loose install with the screen open and then set the mounting depth based on how far you can slide the unit back with the screen open.

I find it funny that there is more technology in today's DVD nav systems than what is in the 348 from end to end.

Think you are right about the issue with the lift up cover and the standard radio set so far back. I want to fit my Pioneer AVIC X1 into the 348 but cant see how the ebay car has done it and managed to get the flip up screen with the cover behind it, it looks as if he has taken the cover off and just rested it in place when the screen is closed in the other pic. But looking at it a), I think it will need something made to make it look good if I do remove the cover there will be a gap at the top and b) I cant see how you remove the cover easily anyway. There is the steel box that radio and cover fits onto but not sure how to remove easily, there are 2 screws at top, 2 at bottom under front plate, but with all those removed it is not coming out, so I am missing something!

If you do get any closer to a good solution please let me know.

THIS IS A STUPID, UNSAFE IDEA!!! I bought an in-dash TV a couple a years ago. It was cool and worked great. I thought I could drive with the TV on and keep my eyes on the road.....NOT! I almost rear-ended two cars in five minutes!

Just my $.02, you will get killed in a week!

NO NO dont get carried away with the tv idea guys. This is primarily for the sat nav not the dvd, tv etc.

We need in he uk a roadangel for all the speed cameras we have and a sat nav if you go anywhere that also tells you how to get round the traffic queues we have here.
