Hi Everyone, I have cooked my drivers rear brake shoes due to a stuck parking brake. I heard squealing metal as I pulled into the garage on Sunday so I am pretty sure they are shot. My brake handle started to get hung up lately and would not fully disengage. It appears it would drag the drivers rear slightly which went away after trying the handle a few times. If I get under the car and yank on the cables it will disengage fully, but there is still about and inch and a half play on the handle before you feel and tension. I would guess the cable needs adjustment, maybe lubrication. I am going to take everything a part and see what's up this week. Anyway, I'm looking to see if there is a source for the shoes other than OEM like so many other parts. If not I'll go OEM. --Mike
You can take your old e-brake shoes to a commercial brake shop, and they can remove what's left of the old lining and install new lining onto the old shoes, probably at a fraction of the cost of new shoes. Look in the yellow pages. You probably have scoring on the drums inside the rear discs, but it's just the e-brake, not a safety concern.
Really....Hmmm. I didn't know they could do that. Sounds like a great idea, I'll check it out. I am hoping the scoring is not that bad, the rotors are new last June. Now I have to figureout why the cable hung up and then fix the problem. --Mike
