Hi guys, Looking for tips. On my Spider the engine lid part that is right behind the plastic top window always seems less shiny then the rest of the lid where the louvers are? I'm not sure but this part of the lid is often black, even on cars that are red, etc. Is it just a different type of paint and finish? Did anyone have luck making it appear nicer and less matte in finish? PS. It still looks very presentable just dont know if it's a design thing or what. Always looking to improve. Thank you.
Yes exactly. It is just more matte than the rest of the lid where the louvers are. However! I have done a little research and I read that the deck lid was indeed finished in a satin/matte way. If anyone knows something different, please chime in.
I believe the early 94 Spiders have the black deck lid. All 95's have color matching lids. I have the black lid and while not as shiny as the rest of the car, I wouldn't say it was matte. I've always thought of painting it to match the rest of the car, but now sorta like the black lid. Not at home so can't post any pics.
I have a -94 Spider and the lid is just as glossy as the rest of the car. I have never seen a Spider that's not been color matched. On the other hand, I haven't seen but a few.... Bertil Image Unavailable, Please Login
Must be a late 94. Mines a 94 (93 build) yellow spider too, but that panel is black. Not only is that panel black, the thin strip around it is black also, like the top. A lot of cars have had the black deck lid painted to match the car, but the thin black strip remains. I really wanted a 95 Spider based on that, but wanted yellow and there aren't many yellow 348 Spiders out there (less than 60 I think). I'm not at home, but maybe can find a pic on my PC.
Early 94 Spider. You can see the small black strip I'm talking about. Most people that repaint their deck lids leave this strip alone. Image Unavailable, Please Login
Yeah, I'd say satin. Definitely not matte. I'll try and take a better pic when I get home in a couple of days. I still prefer the body color, but with a yellow/black car it I think it's ok. With a red/tan car, I think it stands out a bit with the top down and a tan tonneau cover. Just my opinion.
Thanks Lou. Yes, I should have used the word satin from the get go Color or black - both covers look awesome!
Interesting, my Spider is a 94 too, and is painted (red) on the lid, from original. I've never seen a black one either. I suppose most owners may have painted them afterwards, resulting a differing texture on that panel.
Apparently 348s with black lids are extremely rare and worth about twice as much as a normal 348. Image Unavailable, Please Login
