I am going to have a 30k service done on my 348 spyder in a couple of weeks. I will buy the parts package from Daniel and include a water pump.and hoses. I decided to buy from him as all parts are original Ferrari

So for those of you that have done this service what else would you suggest. I had a clutch done last summer. I'm sure there are other upgrades and services to do while the engine is out and accessible. I'm open to all suggestions.

    thnx,

Make sure the bearings behind the cam belt drive wheel are ball type and not roller bearings.
Check the condition of the plastic blocks on the chain tensioners for the oil pump chain and cam belt drive wheel chain. It's a PITA to do, but at 30K miles you may need to change them out.
Make sure the cam belt drive wheel fences have had some reinforcement welds to stop the fences from falling off and destroying the engine.
Maybe throw on 2 new generic O2 sensors.

Also Check that the oil drain hole by the right exhaust cam drive wheel is in the preferred location. Apparently earlier engines have a problem there and you have to get a special jig to drill a better hole, which I believe you can borrow from Ricambi America. Check the last few seconds of this video:

Truth. By the time I was finished with all the "while you're in there parts" I was almost at $10k in parts. However, my car is an early 1990 and I didn't have much service history to go on. YMMV

I would also have the alternator bearings replaced and the unit load tested and also while you're there replace the tensioner bearing. Both much easier wile the engine is out and the cost is minimal.

I put in these later style injectors with the 4 holes for spray pattern. Your engine will love them, Huge bang for the buck improvement.

97 spider, are the injectors a direct swap out for the 348?

Were the 4 hole units used on the higher HP later 348 cars?

I thought that people preferred the Hill Engineering tensioner bearing over the stock Ferrari piece?

At "3900" lobby queen miles and 20 years, all my valves were tight and needed adjustment. Had a lot of other stuff done including both TCUs upgraded to 355 green silicon, new light stalk control, axle work and welded a crack in the oil tank. I think the odometer may have been rolled back early but not significantly. Just had the speed sensor replaced at FoNE. Only service so far this year. Bumper is my own doing and I will change the oil again. Master mechanic says 10w40 is fine since the oil pumps are very strong. 0w40 weeped a bit at the cams with all the city traffic.

As far as I know Daniel only sells the Hill bearing.

I went with Hill on my major last spring

Correct -- in our major service kits for the 348, we only offer the Hill Engineering tensioner bearing set (PT348).
