I purchased a 348 TS back in January 2022 and have been working on getting the car back on the road since. During the replacement of the alternator, upgrade to Nippon Denso and added heat shield, I had to pull intake manifold. Since I had this pulled out I went ahead and pulled the valve covers to re-powder coat. This was a bad idea as I found the cam seals are absolutely dead and silicone everywhere holding things together.

Now I have decided to pull the engine to replace cam seals. I did see the documentation for replacing this without pulling the engine but feel like I should go ahead and pull it. My question is while I have this out what else is recommended. The major service was done last year and have documentation for it, but I should I do that again? What should I make sure to inspect and what else should I replace while the engine is out? I

Other things I am planning to replace
    • Both radiators as one is rusted and the other looks to be original
    • Gas lines as one is in bad shape

    Thanks

Timing belt (cheap) cannot be re-used. All gaskets and seals. Valve adjustment, spark plug wires if those are old. Redo cam timing,

Thanks for the replies. I am planning to purchase the 348 service kit from Ricambi America, based on research they seem to be recommended. Radiators, both replaced from superformance to start. I am sure more to come but this seems to be the starting point. Will take a good look at spark plug wires. Leak down is planned as well. Compression test was done before purchase.

If you have oil leaks and what looks to be some bad workmanship, I would absolutely be dropping the engine out and putting it right....

If cam seals dead after a one year old major everything is suspect including the water pump. Get a rebuild from ricambi and check the impeller installed clearance before you close that up.

348 never fail. 348s are not 355s which poisoned the well for all ferraris

Right his question was "What should I make sure to inspect and what else should I replace while the engine is out" I was just providing possible a list to inspect.

in addition to what you have mentioned…
    - all coolent hoses
    - rubber brake lines
    - inspect steel brake lines and be prepared to replace sections, vibration causes then to rub and removes the protected layer and they then corrode.
    - check all brake calliper piston dust seals; they cab crack over time. both csliper makes are available aftermarket; details in carious fchat threads;
    - drop the fuel pumps and inspect all the rubber bits. very likley these have degraded and need replacing.
    - check the oil radiator; you have to take this off anyway to get the rhd water radiator out. if the water ones are in a sorry state this will probably be as well. you can get these recored.
    - check the coolant hose male spigot in the middle of the block (see other recent post for this potential bit of delight)
    - get friendly with your local powder coater/ plater. might as well get bits done as you go.

    looks great in white!!!

Surprised the 355 folks have not flocked here in shock and horror at that comment to defend the cars honor. :p

355 is great ferrari. You just have to know where the warts hide on all models.
