I'm thinking about an engine swap in my 348, as I believe I've reached the maximum level of horsepower available in an Italian motor. For raw horsepower, there's nothing like American iron. So, I've decided to put a Ford motor in the car. My research indicates that the most speed equipment is available for the venerable 239 "flathead". I need advice on what equipment to use. So, here goes....
    1. Stroker or not?
    2. Strombergs (how many?) or injection?
    3. Catalytic converters necessary for smog?
    4. Supercharger?
    5. Right-side up or upside down?
    6. 5 or 6 speed...or F1?
    7. Would zoomies be tacky?
    8. Would mods on the engine count off in the concours at Pebble?
    9. What about chrome?

If you want to do Pebble, you should at least stay with Ferrari engines. How about a 3 liter GP engine - not too many trophies, but adequate merging power and a killer exhaust note over 15k rpm - you'll LOVE tunnels!!

I think you'll be fine at pebble beach, I don't think they even look under the hood, from what I hear they are not that picky.

OK Bruce, you just took me back to my High School days, so here goes----------
C&T Automotive in North Hollywood built my 59 AB block for my 48 Ford Club Coupe

    1. ported & relieved - proper amount of polish:)
    2. 3/8 X 5/16
    3. JE pistons
    4. Edlebrock polished and painted heads.
    5. Edlebrock 3 pot manifold with Strombergs
    6. beefed clutch & lightened and balanced flywheel
& all the usual stuff to make it proper for show and go.

And now I'd like to do a 32 Highboy roadster-------------so maybe I will:)

All good ideas...but I'd go with two turbo 4-cyl, one in front and one in back with each driving two wheels. :) :) :)

Absolutely beautiful! Wouldn't that look good in a Ferrari engine bay! Then put the Ferrari motor in the '32 Hiboy!

Feel free to debate if you should put American iron in your Itialian car, while I debate if I should laugh or cry.

Seriously Bruce, we have a solution for your problem.

    Stock configuration: 526hp @10,700rpm
    Engine weight: 256lbs.(including exhaust)
    9 cylinder
    36 valve
    6 cams(chain driven)

    Tri Turbo setup: 1005hp @10,200rpm

We can cast the block and use CF matrix cylinder liners(to reduce engine weight under 250lbs) with iron coated forged aluminum pistons. Eliminate poppet valves and cams and use rotary valves(this is NOT like a Mazda rotary engine)......this will allow us to run 15:1 compression(O-ring the cylinder heads).
Run 2 injectors per cylinder(1 high mount,1 low mount) fired in phase to rpm.

NA Specification for this mod: 700+hp @14,000rpm
    engine idle speed: 5,800rpm

I want that motor really, really bad. Where can I get one? I'll build a mini dragster, put a chimp in it, and match race anybody!

What???? You don't like my solution???......lol

The engine looks big, but in fact I could just about put this in a motorcyle.

    2.8L

Even the water cooling pipes are CF composite.

We can get even more radical for a few extra$$$ by useing Nylon66 for some parts....
