In an earlier post, I described the occasional difficulty in starting my 1990 348ts. Never a problem when cold. After driving and then shutting off: turn the key and there would be nothing. Suddenly it would come back again, sometimes by turning on the alarm and then turning it off again. With suggestions from the brotherhood, I suspect it to be electrical and likely the immobiliser/alarm system. Thought I would eliminate the whole system first and possibly even leaving it off. Less electrical connections the better. I have a factory immobiliser/alarm system that I thought could be relatively easy to remove. Not so. Has anyone done this before? Does anyone know what and where I should start? Thanks!

If your battery is in the left rear of the engine bay, check the bullet connectors under the air box. It is not uncommon for them to become poorly connected.

I've never heard of a factory immobilizer/alarm system in a 1990 348ts. As far as I know, no such thing is shown in the Owners Manual, the Workshop Manual, or the Parts Book.

As far as "where to start", find the control box first. It's probably under the radio, or under the center console, or in the area of the kick panel fuse box. It might be under the left side of the dash, but it's pretty tight down there. Does the fob have a name on it, like "cobra" or "clifford"? If so, the same name should be on the control box. There might also be a small square box that looks like a relay, some of these things have motion detectors with a tremblor coil in them.

Once you find the control box, just follow the wires going from the aftermarket box to the factory wiring bundle, and neatly remove the wires and their connectors, and check to make sure that the factory wires are still intact. It's unlikely that the new wires were soldered in, most likely they used crimp connectors, which don't always make good contact.

I've removed dozens of aftermarket alarm systems. I don't care for them.

    Tim, Ernie, and Jeff,
Will check the connectors under the airbox first. Then try looking for control box and remove the whole system. Have been meaning to go through all the electrical connections but every time I try to decide whether to work on the car or drive it, well you know the answer.

Thanks for the help. You guys are the best!
    John
