I'm still getting used to all the little quirks of my '94 348GTS. Being a targa, I now know for instance where the expression "everyone should know where their towel is" comes from ;)

Question for today is: when I'm turning a tight circle, I can feel something in the footwell moving with the tip of my shoe. Does the floor (firewall?) in that area normally wobble a bit when the rack is on lock? The slight movement is felt when I move the steering - not related to speed or otherwise. It feels like the sheet metal which the steering box attaches to is flexing.

Thanks in advance for some feedback from other 348'ers!

I very much doubt that the sheet metal is moving around, if it is you've got very serious problems. IMO and from experience of my 348 it is possibly one of the following.

There is a fairly large steering joint just above the top of your toes on a 348 and what you can feel is this moving around when the car turns. Provided everything is ok, this is perfectly normal and nothing to worry about. I've got big feet and they sometimes catch this on sharp turns.

In the second case it may be that something in the steering has come loose, e.g. the rack or the column. I think this is highly unlikely as you would feel this when driving, but you can check it out by taking the front wheels off, peeling back the carpet in the footwell and have a good look round as you move the steering wheel. If your are in any doubt or not sure what your looking at get a specialist to check it out!

thanks madjules, that's put a smile on my face worthy of one normally seen on felines in your area!

I certainly feel no play at all and it's just like yu describe - a lump of eccentric metal which is rotating.

    Thanks!
