Well I’m very excited to have finally purchased my Ferrari 348 1994 with only 17,000 miles and it looks showroom new. Unfortunately bringing it home to my driveway I wiped out the bottom of the front bumper right away. I cannot believe how low that front bumper is and now I have fiberglass chipping off the bottom. I don’t see how you can use this car in Normal driving environment without damaging this bumper. Does anybody know about aftermarket products that might give me that extra inch that I need to be able to get in and out of my driveway.

I bet anything the front is lowered more than it should be. It also make the driving squirly. I reset my height then lowered it 1" then realigned it. Before that I would scrape my drive way and everywhere else including on roads that dipped.

Pictures or it's a lie. Seriously though it's only fibreglass it can be repaired. We've all done so don't beat yourself up over it. You'll train yourself to identify every possible dip or bump in your town and be an expert in no time. Now you have the first battle wound go out and enjoy the heck out of it. I have a 94 Spider with 19,000 miles on it and love it to death. could use another 100 HP but even with out it it's so rewarding to row through the gears in a mostly analog car. These and 355's are the best of the old school in my opinion. Oh, and congratulations on your purchase.

Get used to it, its easy to scrape the bumpers even when the ride height is correct. You'll soon learn what you can and cannot negotiate....
Mine is literally millimeters of clearance getting into my garage, if my tyre pressures were a bit low it would probably scrape!!
But its all part of the fun, I was devastated when I first scraped mine, but I'm used to it now....so meh, can always get it fixed, its just like stone chips and so forth, if you drive it, then these things will happen...

Be thankful you dont have a 599 with their huge overhang and even lower front splitter.......I have a friend with a 599 and hes always scraping that!!

Welcome to the club! I scraped my bumper on my first day of ownership, too.
Just be aware of your car's limitations.
Avoid speedhumps (plan your route beforehand)
Approach steep driveways at an extreme angle, back out of driveways where possible (turning at the same time to get maximum angle as the front tyres roll off the end).

and if you had that then it could still do with another 100hp, there's never enough horsepower....

Welcome! Scrapping the bumper is part of the experience.

As others have said, best thing you can do is take it to a Ferrari shop and get the ride height and suspension put back to factory settings; then adjust from there for your personal taste. Ride height measurements are actually in the manual, so you can measure it yourself, but as suggested more than likely somebody has dropped the front to a) improve the looks/stance and b) if they know what they are doing change the handling characteristics.

You can get anti skip plates to go under the front bumper; but these are partially self defeating as they in effect lower your bumper by 1/2 inch.

ohh and we need pictures. No pictures didn’t happen!!!

It happens all the time with mine. The bumper is lower and it does extend a good distance. FG is easy to have repaired and relatively inexpensive. There are people that get the bumpers repainted every few years for S&Gs.

    First world problem.
Buy a spare bumper and have it painted and then swap it out when it's all nasty. Rinse and repeat.

I just drive it that way. Life goes on.

Thanks for all the kind words and yes this car is a dream come true for me. I owned 5 Porsches but I always wanted a Ferrari I love the driving feel of this older car without the power steering and the interesting gear shifter flaws that love. My car does have a few exhaust and chip modifications the dealership put in. It’s putting out about 350 hp they tell me. I still think it’s pretty fast without that extra stuff. Most guys aren’t good enough to even get the benefit of an extra hundred horsepower a fumble around with the gears and I’m not a paddle shifter guy at all.

Congrats man, the 348 is a great driving experience for sure....
I would not be believing anything about it having 350hp. Its actually not possible on the standard fuel injectors and the way the standard fuel/ignition map is in these cars.
The maximum you could hope for on the standard injectors is 320hp, and even then it would take some dyno time etc etc....and with the clunky old ECU's these run, you're not on the dyno adjusting the maps in real time, its a chip flash ever time you adjust something........a very time consuming process.
Personally I would not be putting any "chip" in my ECU without it going on the dyno and checking for detonation and making sure its AFR is in the ideal range.

But that aside, who cares, just enjoy the car, they sure are great, I love mine...I have a KSG free flow, no cats exhaust, and an aftermarket air intake system, so it sounds great and feels a little more responsive....mine is a Euro spec.

That's some pretty aggressive damage to the bumper, did you catch it whilst reversing?
Whenever I am moving the car with sketchy ground clearance I am at a crawl so you can feel and hear it make contact, then you are able to stop before the damage happens.

Mike take your car over to Craig at Fast Cars. It's in your hood and I guarantee you will not be disappointed. Craig and his facility are top notch all the way.

thanks i want to put the car back to stock, all this tubi exhaust and electrical mods are not for me. When do i need to go faster than 170 plus mph? 5 seconds, 4 seconds, who can tell the dif? I love the sound and feel of this car and dig the nod to the Testarossa styling.

Thanks i will look them up. Do they do any paint and body? I have a couple of small touch up areas. The black front grill is chipped and peeling and the black triangular plates at the top of the pillars at the door corners is worn to bare metal a bit.q

I live on a hill and the road meets the driveway at an angle and then that angle meets the sidewalk which meets another angle as the driveway is steep leading up into my garage so I have a double whammy on the angles I’ve been trying to drive up the curb at a hard sideways position. The main damage came just from hitting it the first time straight on I never thought about it after five porsches. When I tried backing in I hit the rear differential on the bottom of the driveway. I don’t know what to do I guess that suspension adjustment upwards will have to be done although I really like the stance of my car right now. I’m going to go out and measure from the floor to the bottom of that bumper and then look in the manual and see how far off I am from factory.

If you look at the manual it's not from the floor of the bumper It's from the floor to various chassis points for ride height

Fast Cars is your one stop do it all shop. When you visit them and see what they work on and restore you will be put at ease as to how small your issues are and quite easily sorted. It's like going to the Dr. for a pimple and finding out he/she is the worlds top plastic surgeon. You're in good hands.

well everybody was right I went over to fast cars and met Craig and he gave me a tour of the whole place. Since we were both into car restoration he was super nice. Here’s what they decided to do with my front bumper problem at first we were going to just take 1 inch off the bottom and try to put a skid plate underneath of that. Once he got down to orange county at the body man Craig called me to tell me that their idea would be to take 1 inch out of the middle area Put the two pieces back together fiberglass it and paint it. They’ve completed that portion Craig saw the pictures and said you cannot tell it looks like it came off the factory floor. They even were able to mesh it to the air intake and you can’t even tell they cut it there. He said it’s gonna be two weeks before I see the car back but that I’ll be happy with the final fix you’re going to put a skid plate underneath it and that was a big reason why they decided to not cut off the bottom since there wouldn’t be any meat there to attach the skid plate. I’m pretty excited to get her back and the only thing left to talk to Craig about is my air-conditioning. I know it’s been hot and the car was fully serviced at the dealership but once the car gets up to temperature the air is only cool not cold. In fact since I got it I’ve never been cool inside the cockpit.

I’ve got my car back now from Craig at fast cars in Redondo Beach California. I have been cursed with destroying my front bumper getting in and out of my driveway and just about every other low-lying curb in my neighborhood. So Craig took my car and they cut a 1 inch strip out of the middle avoiding the air intake match the two pieces back together Fiberglass sanding and repainting and it looks like it came off the showroom floor just like that. He also installed two skid plates on each side of the bumper and there are about 12 inches semi triangular but the neat thing about them is they are easily replaceable with a couple screws and they’re inexpensive to buy as well. I do still just barely rub a couple real low-lying spots but it’s easily absorbed by the hard plastic skid plate with no notice of damage to the bumper at all. I wanted to wait a few weeks of daily driving before I posted that this is an amazing fix for anyone having low bumper problems. Again I can’t say enough about Craig and the guys at fast cars he knows his stuff he has to 340 eights that are his personal vehicles so he’s been through this bumper thing. I’m going to shoot a couple photos of the finished bumper the first shots didn’t look very good and I will certainly post them hopefully others will go check Craig out and see if they can help your problem

Did you check ride height, many previous owners lowered the front way too low? If so I think you'd find if you reset the ride height then lowered it 1/2 inch it would drive amazing and scrape less. That said I like the idea of what you did though, the big problem with the 348 is the really low chin making lowering an issue and even more so if you switch rime and go tio 2252 tires they are 1/2 shorter on top of that. Post some pics!

Those corners under the front bumper are the highest risk areas for sure, but consider putting another skid plate right under the center too.
Keep the Tubi!! The original exhaust weighs a ton and is way too quiet. If you like the snarl now, you will be sorely disappointed with the Camry-like purr from the original system
