If you had the problem with only one front wheel, then I'd guess wheel bearing. If the problem is with both front wheels "wobbling," then I'd guess that the lug nuts are just barely contacting something (enough to cause a wobble).

both wheels make noise, although it started on the left and then became much louder on the right and seems to have stopped on the left. Hmmm since I had the mysterious lug nut too long problem with the rear wheels, it could be I also have it on the front. But then again, when I spun the wheels with my hands I couldn't feel or hear anything strange. Maybe it needs some load against it or higher speeds to manifest itself.

I'll call and tell them about the lug nuts.

So they guy called me back and sure enough it was the lug bolts that are too long. Apparently they crushed at the end, and so backed out a bit as I was driving and did not hold the wheel real tigh. I'm an idiot, I should have measured them before bolting the wheels on instead of trusting it would have worked. live and learn. Anybody who finds this thread via search MEASURE YOUR BOLTS before putting on new wheels.

So the problem he has is that the crushed end could damage the thread on the hub as he tries to back out the bolts. If he can get them out without damaging the hubs then there is a machine shop next to his that can shorten and rethread the bolts.

If he can't, I might need new front hubs. Daniel, if you read this, on your site it says contact us about new hubs. What am I looking at $$ wise if that happens? (I'll call monday if it turns out I need new hubs)

BTW, anyone in the DC area, this guys is AWESOME. Such a nice guy, he doesn't want to charge me anything for his labor trying to figure it out. I can PM you details.

If you are lucky he can back the bolts out without striping the threads on the axle shaft. If they get get stripped on the axle shaft then you are gonna have to tear it apart. I haven't had to tear into my front wheel axle hubs so I can't say for sure. But, I can't see them being any harder than it was when I rebuilt my rears.

I hope the can get the bolts out without any problems.

Got my car back finally. So it turns out the bolts were too long but they were not crushed against the hub. Rather since they were too long, there was not enough thread to securely tighten them against the wheel, so they were just tightened against the thread and over time back out a bit and caused the wobble that made the rotors move against the brakepads and cause the noise.

The guy used a metric threader and added 1/2" of thread to the bolts and rebalanced the wheels on the car itself. The drive back home was great, no vibration on the steering wheel, not even a millimeter, car felt great, brakes worked fine. He only charged me for the threader that he had to buy, $30.

Glad to have my baby back :)

Ah, bolts bottomed out, wheel loose, noise in brakes. :D:D
I thought there was a brake issue, but not because of this! Wow!! There was 3mm difference in bolt lengths, makes perfect sense now. Glad you got it all sorted mate! :):)
