Oh chas, Look at this fuel filter! Yours are clean. This cut open by rifledriver on a 550 with the same general fuelpump system. http://ferrarichat.com/forum/showpost.php?p=141794633&postcount=10
OMG!! That is insane! I wonder how many years that filter had been in place. I'm surprised fuel could even flow through that crap.
I found out what other car uses the same vibration dampening sleeve. A '91 Alfa Romeo 164. The Alfa part number is 60572049. They also use the same trianglular pad on the bottom of the pump, and that part number is 82404491. And yes I'll add this to the parts sticky.
These are no longer available or the Ferrari ones Were now in uncharted real estate as I need 2 of the vibration insulators. May have to make something to stoog ring it
Materials ordered I am making my own pump holder/vibration dampener. I design came to me while I was on the thrown this morning. Will post up when I am done
OK were cooking now !!! Using a high performance Atlas 109 lathe LOL. I rebuilt this a few years ago for fun and it works great with updated parts for small stuff like this on soft material. Anyway making a 3 piece unit with replaceable Viton rubber inserts that seals the pump filter so no dirt enters the pump. What a novel idea no dirt in the pump. Dig that cuugga chugga sound [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ssrLapjvdu4[/ame]
Plenty of stooge goodness going on there, Tim. Willing to make more once you've proven the concept?? I'd like to refresh my pumps over the winter before the rubber becomes a problem.
I have 2 designs One all Viton rubber the other half viton half acel I think the all rubber may be best I will know when I finish the hard ones
Bumping this thread up... I'm currently ordering all the parts required to rebuild the fuel pumps as it's never been done on my car before. I'm also changing the pumps themselves with 155592. Now, the check valves (nonreturn valves) seem to be a separate part number on Ferrari's exploded view (120098). In the picture of 155592 I've ordered, it looks like the 120098 is pre-installed. The clerk at Superformance couldn't confirm this. Has anyone ordered 155592 before and did it come with 120098 pre-installed? Apparently 120098 is NLA but I found the interchange numbers (either 1 587 010 536 or 1 587 010 532 Bosch, just have to make sure of threads). Image Unavailable, Please Login
I would just remove the check valves from the old pumps and use them on the new pumps. If it ain't broke, don't fix it.
My fuel pump on the rh side has a very slight damp leakage, not really noticeable visually but obvious to the touch. I suspect it is the rubber gasket on the base flange. Is this a gasket or an o ring. If an o ring, what sectional size?
I had to replace the rubber parts on my 348 fuel pumps about two years ago. Found most of the parts at Superformance.com in England, they also now sell the O-rings. I found an SAE cross part number 162. The full product name was "Buna orings # 162-70D". And you are going to love this: price for 5 pieces $1.50 from www.oringsandmore.com Unfortunately, I did not write down the drain plug size so send me an pm with your address and I can send you some. I think I have 98 left over from the order. One less dollar for FNA is a good thing. FWIW Jeff Pintler 89 348tb, 86tr, 99 360 3-pedal, 05 Bobcat S-160
That right there is the problem. Buna does not have the chemical tolerance that Viton does. The Buna will deteriorate again on you. I haven’t bothered to look for other sources but, as far as I know Ricambi is the only place you can by the pump sleeves that are made from Viton. Again, Buna is the rubber that deteriorates in the fuel. Viton is what you want when the rubber will be exposed to fuel.
The Buna material was what the O-rings were made from. I have no idea what the pump support rubber and the triangular spacer were made from. When I replaced the various parts, they were NLA and the ricambi solution was to use a smaller, non -viton part and stretch it to fit. Also I try to remind myself when doing some of this stuff that the original parts survived for 28 yrs. The gasket for sealing the fuel level sensor is NLA, the fuel level sender is NLA, the Testarossa in tank fuel filter on the pick-up is NLA...I wonder if we could have start a thread on how to make some of these parts.
