Can the fuel float be removed in a 1990 348ts without removing the tank? Does anyone have a copy of the wiring for the fuel quanity system they can e-mail me? Any hints on trouble shooting a non working gauge? It always reads empty. Thanks,
Looking at the parts list, it looks like it drops out from underneath, best to check though! Regarding the wiring - the sender unit on the schematic I have has 3 wires - The copy I have is a little hard to read but looks like the following: 3 pin Plug & socket near sender unit. Violet - Potentiometer (Rheostat/variable resistor - for gauge in centre console) Black - Ground Pink/Black (or Pink/Brown) - Fuel reserve warning light on dash. The fuel gauge and warning lights rely on the potentiometer and float switch in the sender unit dropping to ground. If I had to try and diagnose it I would disconnect the sender plug and place a wire link in the pin where the black ground wire terminates (on the loom side) and check to see if I had meter movement or the warning light come on when the other end of the link wire made contact with either of the other two pins of the 3 pin plug. Hope this helps Paul
He is correct, Fuel pump drops from underneath without need of removing the tank. there is also a fuel drain plug on the fuel pump assembly for easy empty of the tank. best regards, Jim,
sorry, forgot to mention that the fuel gauge is fastened in with a ring nut with four holes. you may be able to loosen by use of a large size snap ring pliers or long nose needle pliers. one way to tell if the gauge is at fault is that the low fuel light and the gauge work off the same sensor. if your gauge reads empty all the time and the low fuel light is on all the time, the problem is in the sensor. If the low fuel lamp works normally with the gauge still empty, than it may be the gauge. best of luck, Jim
