348 Gearlever position

    Anybody got any pics of their gearlever in relation to the end of the gate in the 5 gears.Mine doesn't sit right at the end of the gate.

    In neutral it should be in the middle of everything.

    Yeah, but how far down each slot should it be when it's in gear??

    It should be equal space in second as in third from the "full throw" of the gate.

    Well, ideally you want the stick all the way in the slot. It sounds like you have an alignment issue with the shift cables. When the shift cables get adjusted you want to make sure that the gears are fully engaged and that the shifter is in the correct possition. It is possible to have the cables adjusted out too far. The gear will still be fully engaged, but the shifter will not be all the way in the slot. If that is the case you may want to shorten up the adjusters on the cable. But be careful when you do this. Again BE CAREFUL when you adjust the cables. If you don't adjust everything evenly it can throw off the alignment of the cables, and cause big time problems with gear sellection.

    So having said that, are you having the same problem with the stick going all the way in the slot for the other gears, or is it just in 5th? If it is only in 5th, does it pop out of gear?

    Been messing with the adjustment today, neutral is bang in the middle of the gate, the gearlever when in 2nd & 4th is the same distance from the end of the slot as it is when it is in 3rd & 5th, but it is not at the end of the slot, it's about a 1/4 inch away.
    Can adjust the cables so that the gearlever goes to the end of the slot in 2nd & 4th but the gap then increases when in 3rd & 5th or vice versa.
    Doesn't jump out of gear, change is ok if a tadge notchy but maybe typical 348??
