Ya gotta love optimists! I give it six months. Do report back. Ciao.
What happens if you don't open the glovebox. Does the gas still leak out of the strut or is it only when it is constantly opened and closed. I don't keep anything in my glovebox so I probably won't open it that often. It just annoyed me that the struut didn't work as it was intended.
Can still leak mate. Seals go "hard" when they sit and are not used, so to speak. I had bonnet struts in my old Ford turn to **** after letting them sit for 18 months. They WERE new before. Got new ones in there now, open the bonnet every now and then to check the levels and they have been going great ever since. I randomly leave open my bonnet and engine cover on my 348 to work those struts to keep those seals soft. Glovebox one also. I also dont put anything in mine, but I flip it up every now and then.
OK guys and Daniel and as promised - It's now over a year since I fitted the factory brand glovebox lid strut to my 348. I am pleased to say it still works and the gas is still intact. Further to the above, the engine lid struts (factory as well) that I bought off Daniel and fitted over 18 months ago are also still working well.
Good to hear buddy. My glovebox strut is still the same one that came with my car when I bought it 7 yrs ago and it still works fine.
Then when you next concour your car, you can tell the judges that your glovebox strut is factory original, whilst mine is a factory original replacement part. Your car then wins the concours. Lol.
Lol, it's a genuine one...............but I am not 100% sure that it's from factory. And my car has nothing on your car. You win EVERYTIME! Also, my Brother just found all my books/service history for my 348. He had it stored at his place and he had misplaced it for the last 6 yrs. He only just found it while cleaning house to move out. I got it here now, I will open it all up again when I have time and go through it again. I will see if I can find a glovebox strut replaced in the invoices somewhere. Have a great day man.
You don't need the books or service history sheets. You only need those things when you go to sell !!!!!!! Cheers mate.
Never say Never, but I hope you stick to your word. You might have to install an aftermarket rear seat though when the twins come along. Lol.
Well its over two years now guys since I installed the new replacement glove box strut lid. I have probably opened the glove box twice or so since installing it, the last time I can't remember. Well last weekend I opened the glove box and guess what - the gas strut failed the test. It's a pity, but after all the negative feedback, I guess this part was never meant to work.
Well I am a new 348 owner and the first thing I tried to replace was the glove box strut and the console door strut. Bought them from lift depot and taking the little one out of the package I could tell it had less resistance than the original one so I didn't even install. I'm going to at least try to have them replace but after reading this I guess it won't really matter.
After creating THE solution here: http://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/140767422-post5.html I decided to make a few of these and then figured out I was not a fan of Ebay or Paypal and don't have a membership here to post a classified ad so these have been hanging here in my basement for over a year! Oh well. Image Unavailable, Please Login
Lasted that long huh? I can't even begin to remember how many of those I changed under warranty. And then again.
