Can anyone ball park a figure to get a 348 that has been sitting around for 3+ years up and running. I assume the exterior is ok, paint might be shot and the leather will need work.

    Thank you.

    Way too many variables.

If it was working fine and serviced correctly before being parked then likely not a lot. But in my mind none of that would have happened. If that did happen then it is just another well serviced not driven much 348.

If it needs a bunch of stuff it has need it for a while and then as Dave said .....

Go ahead and drop the motor and do a 30k service at whatever cost your local guy charges $4500-10k. I wouldn't trust a belt or tensioners that had been sitting for three years. Put new sticky tires on it. Then drive it like ya stole it. Don't even wash it, but do vacuum it and clean the windows. Place fresh French fries under the seat. Nothing to it :)

if you dont have any proof of having the major done, concider having it done for ease of mind.

for seats, Heavy saddle leather conditioner- 25.00 any western supply. keep applying til it gets soft
For any pealing upholstery have a professional ether re-glue it or replace it. you can buy the leather or vinyl at any fabric store.
Wet sand and polish- 200.00. At any paint and body shop. do haggle...
New fuel filters-40.00 for both. Discount Auto. Don't tell them its a Ferrari. give them the filter number only. it's tough install but at the end you'll be proud of yourself. use a large cardboard to lay mon top of the engine while doing this.
Synthetic oil- 200.00 anywhere. Any car service location. just make sure its the proper oil and proper amount.

Doing it yourself not only will it be self gratifying but you will get better acquainted with your 348. Then take car of the small stuff. send gauges and panels to sticky RX, Door handles and seat levers, have them powder coated at a fence powder coating facility, they use the same Technics and are much more affordable. i did all my powder coating 1 year ago. it looks perfect as original, and it all costed about 60.00.

    hope this was helpful..

If it can be bought for less than $25k, I'd do the same.

Eddy - with respect, powdercoat finishes are far too glossy for interior parts and you can only PC metal :)

    Thanks for the plug ;)

My leather for my project 355 (dash and seats only) was just shy of $8k to do right.

The goals will determine cost. Concours standards may cost more than the car is worth - sadly

Actually I just used some flat black powder coat the other day. They make a pretty wide range of finishes these days.

That's kind of what I was thinking. Why would the fact that it has been sitting for 3 years put the car in disrepair? It was likely like that when parked than. At three years many are considering a fresh major to start off right anyway.
The leather would only make a difference if it was sitting in the sun of an Arizona junk yard or was it tucked away in the corner of someone's garage? Etc etc.. a billion variables but many might have been there long before it was parked. If it's under $30k you're golden, especially if you can do your own work.

    Then shoot for $20!

But I'd certainly take a closer look. However, absolutely no rusted body panels or structure either. And the motor must turn over and "pass" a compression test.

If that goes well, a track car for the street is what I'd do. :)

As others have said, it's cheaper (and smarter) to buy a nice example then it is to create one.

Once I have all the details, I will post here. I will likely not keep the car. I am still working on the deal but I have to wait for a law suit(seller's) to settle before I can finalize the car.

The car was is perfect shape when it was stored. It is been 3-5 years since it was driven and it has been stored outdoors under a tarp for the last 12-18 months. I am sure the gas needs to be replaced but I have not been able to see if there are rodents in the engine bay. I have only seen a few pics of the exterior and it looked ok in the pics.

So, "what would it cost to flip this car?"

    Good luck with that! ;)

    Wade,

It depends on how well I can buy the car. I should know in a week or two. It is one of a package, I need to see the cars before I make a real offer. At the moment all I have is a VIN and some crappy pics. I dont know anything else.

I will let you know if it all works out.

I'm in this boat at the moment. Just purchased a 92 TS as a project, that has been stored for a while and has some questionable "modifications" to the bodywork.

It's currently having its engine out service, which has highlighted a few extra bits that need attention, which I expected. But overall I've been told the engine is in good condition.

One thing that helps preserve your cars interior is having AC in your garage. i live in Coral Gables FL. its so humid down here that any sign of moisture can quickly escalate to mold issues.

You definitely need to budget for the unforeseen. I've just bought a 92 348 TS that had been in storage for a while.

It currently having its engine out service. Once the engines out, you see things that need fixing that you wouldn't have when it's in the engine bay.

For me, I had some perished hoses, the cam covers completely fell apart and part of the Lower alternator support arm had broken off.
