Just found out my LH Header is cracked (149948) I have read here that the F355 versions are hard to weld and will only hold for some time How about the 348?? I am planning to take it off and have it welded, good idea?? Major is due in 2 yrs so will try to remove it 'engine in', is that possible? It needs to come off anyway. Shouldn't be too difficult. Once you have it off you can try a repair but it will likely involve more than simply filling the crack. I would check around for a new one (136276) just in case.
The crack is only in the heat shield I can drill holes at the end of the crack to stop it from getting bigger Can I keep driving that way?? A new one is around 1000.- euro :-( ; labour not included
I'd suggest that the crack is caused by an external source as evidenced by the corrosion. Replacing the cancered material will be as necessary as locating the source of the issue.
From looking at the picture you provided the crack appears to be right through the heat shield , into the header. To consider welding it you will need to be sure what the problem is first. Remove the heat shield , inspect the header and if all is ok then just reinstall/weld the heat shield back on. But it does look like some serious corrosion in there and I expect you may find a 'surprise' when you remove the heat shield. Only an proper inspection will tell if this can be repaired by welding.
