Folks. A while back there was a thread on the removal/ repair of the heat shield on 348's.
Tried numerous searches to no avail. If anyone has guidance regarding removal, please advise.
    Regards.

I assume you mean the heat shield for the muffler. They are nothing special, just fiberglass if I'm not mistaken.

Which heat shield are you referring to? Because some model years have more than others. Also, muffler shield or engine cover ("deck lid") heat shield?

I removed the top portion of the exhaust shield when I went with a single muffler. No issues. If you remove the cats the engine room also stays much cooler but that is a separate issue. If you paint the remaining small shield black it looks like carbon fiber.

Thanks for the reply everyone. Guess I should have been a bit more specific. The heat shield for the engine. Needs R&R. Trying to figure out if there is an easy way of removing and gluing it back since a portion is peeling away.

The fiberglass HS on my F355 died 15-odd years ago. I got a section of thin aluminum rolled/bent it to approximately fit the muffler, and pop riveted some insulation blanket material, and have been using it ever since. Cost: oh about $2.00, maybe $4.00 in today's market.

Great tip Mike, thanks. A small section of mine is coming loose and the black foam looks the best.

However, reading some of the posts in the linked thread has me wondering if I need any foam at all (no trophy pursuits for me).

I seriously doubt it's needed but to my eye it looks more finished with the foam in place.
