so I have obtained a NOS hvac unit for my car while repairing the original one... both fit perfectly well in the car but to my surprise the construction of each is different. my original hvac unit has flush mounted buttons that function like those on a cell phone... a tiny push on the button pad operates the function without any visible part movement . my new hvac unit has push buttons that visibly get pushed in a good 5mm to operate the function. My question is ... which version is more common? any other

any other variations out there? Seems strange for a limited production car like the 348 with such a type specific hvac to have different variations of it installed. the cost for tooling and manufacturing of different versions seems a waste of resources unless there were major problems with a first version that required reengineering the design ... from my observation the original one in my car was very poorly designed yet my car is a 1995 348. sorry for the rambling ... just found it curious

Interesting thread I never have noticed any different ones, they all look like the second one you describe, the first one you speak of without the push button travel sounds odd. Pics please

I have seen about 15 of them in original Ferrari packaging -- with production dates from 88 through 94. I have not seen one with push buttons as you describe. There should be a little sticker on the rear of the casing with a "Rev level" and production date. What does it show?

Also, the size of the harness connector changed over the years. It was made larger in 94, so better hold the wiring harness in place. Can you take a snap shot of yours?
