Hi, Since I have jump started my ferrari 348 a few times (battery was completely dead), it is giving me a hard time starting. What are the most common problems starting from too much jump starting ? Now my 348 starts hardy.. :-( Thaks for all the help
Sounds like you need a new battery. Also buy a trickle charger and charge up the battery if you are not driving it.
I do have a new battery; problems started after jumpstarting and kept being present after fitting a new battery...
If you are having trouble starting with a fresh, fully charged battery, you might take a look at all the connections along the way.
Does this mean: A. the starter motor spins the engine well/normally, but the engine doesn't fire up, B. the starter motor engages, but can hardly/only slowly spin the engine, C. the starter motor does not engage at all? Also, is it related to time-of-disuse? -- i.e., if you shut it off after use, it will start right up OK, but after a few days disuse, it won't start? Or it doesn't matter, and it's always has the problem?
definately A. Fires and stumbles and stumbles and stumbles and when giving throttle dies.. How to by-pass fuel pumps and led them spin ?
Why is it always the hard one And what about warm restarting -- does it only have this problem when starting from cold (like after sitting overnight), or does warm restarting, immediately after using and shutting off, still have the same trouble?
exactly, why is it always the hard one Will check the cables.. Now the engine is completely cold, so cold only.. I will replace - cranksensors - spark plugs - MAF's - O2 sensors - the critical connections will be gold-plated - air filter - fuel filters If car doesn't start then, I will get wride of the alarm system..
Before the battery went dead, was the engine running normally? Any unusual noises? Excessive smoke from the exhaust? Low on power? It's possible that your spark plugs are "wet fouled". Try pulling one out (18mm deep socket) and see if the electrodes are damp with fuel. By any chance did you run water over the engine lid, or leave the car out in heavy rain? Maybe the spark plug wells are flooded with water. Easy to check, doesn't cost anything. Unless you manually bypass the relays, the fuel pumps don't engage until the engine is cranking over.
Ambitious. Please only R&R one item at a time, even filters, restarting the engine after completing each task. All to often one can accidentally introduce a new problem and troubleshooting becomes a nightmare. By far the most common problem is damaging an alternator regulator diode, especially to the donor vehicle. If you foresee having to jump-start routinely, it would pay to purchase an inexpensive auto battery (or motorcycle battery) w/marine case to enhance portability and reduce any danger harming the charging circuit. .
The car was running perfect, I did a 100 mile trip, with at the end on my driveway a CEL and a small hick-up. That's it. After that I drove another 2 miles. After trying to jump start another 4 times it get worse and worse. I took out the plugs and are a bit wet (not very very much). I have left the plugs to dry in house, but will replace them to be sure.
Yes Yes Yes, Worked all day on the Ferrari and removed the Clifford alarm, restored the wiring and also found one wrong relay. After that crossed my fingers......... And she has never ran that good, I am in the process of upgrading all th connectors to gold-plated. And will still go on and replace O2 sensors, because there was a fault on one. Thanks everyone for thinking with me
