348 Kickplates from New

My 348tb still has the original plastic covering on the driver's side kickplate (it's like stretched/compressed plastic laminate sheeting). The passenger side plastic is taken off. Do any of you 348 owners of NEW 348 vehicles remember this plastic coating being on your treadplates when the car was delivered new? If affirmative, can the plastic coating be sourced and retrofitted, if desired?
