    Hi

The headlights on my 348 will not pop up and I cannot seem to find any relays. If I wind the headlight up manually then one of them will pop down when you turn the headlights off. All the connections are right but I cannot trace the cabling back to any relays. So does anyone know where they are located. ?

Has anyone had a similar problem ?

    Thanks, Harry

    Welcome to Ferrari Chat.

Are you aware that there is a fuse/relay panel in the drivers side of the front trunk, under the little removable cover? All of the electrical items for the headlights are located right there, and there is a label on the underside of the cover to help you identify which ones do what. Good luck with it. And it's generally a good idea to be really careful when you have a hand or fingers down around the headlight buckets - they can raise or lower with a great deal of force, and very suddenly.

Edit: You got a great response from "348Jeff" in your other post in the Technical section - are you having trouble finding that fuse panel?

    Firstly,
Sorry to 348Jeff. I did post this question last week (first time of posting) but couldn't find where it had been posted to and therefore was unaware of your reply.

Anyway thanks 348Jeff for the diagram and your informative reply. I have just tested all the relays and all are OK, but they will only click in position "A". No clicks at positions "H" and "I". All fuzes are intact. I would have thought that if "A" clicks OK then "H" and "I" should follow ?

Also thanks to Miltonian, I have tested the relevant relay in the footwell and it is OK but does not click when headlights are selected. All fuzes are OK.

    So still no pop up.

    Regards, Harry

    No worries LOL

Made a slight mistake in post which Ive correced - you need to check fuse 15 as well. Basicly there are 3 fuses and 3 relays.

Thanks for the new info. I have checked the 3 relays and they are OK, also all the 3 fuzes are intact.

I am now thinking that if the relay in position "A" clicks. (control relay)

Then "H" and "I" relays should subsequently follow (LH and RH relay)

If "H" and "I" relays do not click then maybe something is wrong within the fuze box circuits. I will open it up tomorrow and check the circuits.

Have you tried swapping the relays with a similar type just to make sure

Because you're a new member, let me ask you this. Did you just get the car, or have you had it long? Were the headlights operating correctly at one time, and stopped working, or have they never worked correctly while you owned the car?

Hi, Yes I have checked the relays, I have interchanged them with similar ones and they all work OK

    +1

good point! You have got the ignition turned on havent you? ie. if your lights are on and you stop the car the lights go down, conversely, switching lights on without ignition on wont make them pop up.

Yes it is a new car to me.

The previous owner stripped the car down for a professional respray, (which has been done beautifully). Everything was working before that. Unfortunately he developed a tumour and could not remember how to put it back together. I bought the car with most of the electrics not working. Everything now works except the pop up motors and full beam. Both of these have adjacent relays which makes me wonder if there is something wrong within the fuze box.

Yes I am testing the lights with the ignition on and the motor running.

And you are twisting the headlight lever knob, not just moving the lever up and down?

from off turn once for sidelights, - which now work,

Turn once again for headlights, - which now work. (but don't pop up)

Click down for full beam which doesn't work. (Pull for flasher high beam which doesn't work either)

    Regards
    Harry

    What I am wondering is,

why is there a headlight lifting relay (which is not clicking) in the footwell, and also a control relay (which does click) in the front compartment, and then a left and right relay (neither of which click) in the front compartment.

Does the footwell relay connect to the front compartment relays ?

I was just wondering if the 3 relays in the front compartment are to lift the light units. and maybe the footwell relay is to lower the lights.

    Does this sound reasonable ???

    Thanks, Harry

According to the wiring diagram, the only relay in the footwell panel that has anything to do with the headlights is #b (control relay for actuation of external lighting). I would think that if your headlight bulbs are working, this relay must be working. It doesn't have a purpose specific to the headlight door motors, as the relays in the front trunk have.

If I had the car here in my garage for testing, I suppose the first thing I would do would be to get a test light and confirm that you have power at fuses 3,4, and 15. Simple things first. And don't necessarily assume that the fuses are OK unless you do a continuity test on them or replace them with new ones.

Do you have access to the wiring diagram for the external lighting (figure 6, page L27)?

    Where are you located?

I agree about the footwell relays.

Very good idea about a test lamp. I will make one tomorrow.

I have ordered a CD with circuit diagrams but it hasn't arrived yet.

Where do I find "figure 6, page L27"

    Many thanks Miltonian
PS I am in the middle of France.
