I got a quote at Delphais Colision in Exton, Pa. Mike Franz is a great guy! I wanted the black trim all around painted to match red, roof painted to match and black engine lid painted to match. I was quoted $5300, is that right or pretty high. It looks like an amazing shop, Ferrari, Maserati, Noble seen that day there. Just seems a little pricey to me, but I know it will look factory when its done. What do you guys think?

$5300!!! Oh my gosh. I guess I'm brushing up on my car painting skills. I just bought my daughter a 2000 Korean car for less than that. Man, $5000 to paint the lower sills, $3000 for 355 wheels. This ain't no economy car.

Around $4000 to pricey if you ask me. ;);)

Everyone is obviously going to quote differently, so I would shop around mate. :):)
I am getting the lower black trim , black side mirrors and 2 scratches fixed on my g/f's GM Holden Commodore ute painted white for AU$400!! So that quote for US$5300, to paint lower skirts, engine cover and TS roof is very pricey IMO. :):)

Without knowing what he proposed, it's a little tough to judge.

Remember, this is the land of $120 per hour labor costs at the Ferrari Dealer, so prices may vary from other regions.

I will tell you this, Mike does superior work, he painted my Dino, he paints for Algar, he's as good as there is.

I'd ask him to break it down for you. I'd also explain your budget. I'm pretty sure he can trim some costs as long as you both have reasonable expectations of the results.

The job is NOTHING special. For your information there is ALREADY red paint under the black paint. All that needs to be done is to have the black paint color/wet sanded off, then a nice buff job. It shouldn't cost you more than a few hundred bucks to have a shop do the job. You don't need to repaint the whole thing.

You could get the entire car resprayed for those dollars! :D:D
I wonder if there was a mis-understanding here and he IS respraying the entire car and colour coding all the black trim.:eek:

I would do as Dave M. suggests and find out what's involved. I had my front bumper resprayed on the 328, and that ended up being a $1200+ job (with no masking -- it detaches with minor disassembly). The painter took it down to bare 'glass where it needed smoothing and fixed some hairlines that were barely visible. Then he sent the paint back to the supplier twice because it didn't have the perfect amount of metal-flake in it. That took another 2-3 days, IIRC. The result was a perfect job, but for about $500 more than everyone here said it "ought to cost". When I got the bill, we went over the hours spent and the painter explained had underestimated the work effort - so he didn't even make that much on it, given the hours we worked gratis.

What's he doing to the roof? And the deck?

It doesn't sound like a bargain, but have him walk you through the process and figure out if a 'cheaper shop' is doing the same work. I'm not sure I agree with the low-hundreds estimates here...

And yeah, you can paint any car for $5300, but not one you ever hope to sell outside of Mount Isa. ;)
