Ok here is my data point. Just had the 348 serviced and installed Hill Engineering cam belt tensioners. Way, way better than the Ferrari parts. Previous service 7 years ago and 23k milies. Belts look perfect and probably original tensioners were a little gritty. Used Iridium plugs. Installed new ferrari water pump. I supplied the tensioners ($500?), total from shop $4900.

I just had my major service done including new clutch for around $9,000. The ferrari service manager here says do not go by miles, rather do it every 5 years. the reason is the rubber belts deteriorate over time, miles has nothing to do with it.

I have seen 348's go 10 years without a timing belt change but it's like a grenade waiting to go off. 5 years or 30k to keep it safe.

be interesting to know how the Ferrari mechanics feel and their opinion about the sevice schedule and belt maintenance (but of course it's how they make a living).

I wonder what they would recommend......;)
Then again, all the Indies that are worth their high teeth are realistic and have been around the block a few times. They know best. Some of the Ferrari Dealership mechanics recommendations are another story. :)

Pull out the engine subframe with hand tools in less than a novice weekend with a "how to" by 348 Brother ernie: http://www.the348.com/tech/348.html#enginepull

Buy all aftermarket parts (especially the rubber coolant hoses, rebuilt waterpump, and Hill Engineering tensioner bearings) to save more than half of your parts cost: http://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/showthread.php?t=50339

Do it yourself 30k maintenance: http://www.the348.com/tech/348.html#EngineService

I would definitely look for an indy shop at those prices. That is just way too much IMO for the work described.
