I'm about to pull my dad's engine on his 348 to start the major service. Does anyone have a link to step-by-step instructions on this process? I have the car up on my new 2 post lift, I have a forklift to lower it out and the parts will be ordered from Ricambi next week. I just want to make sure that I am doing everything correct. Someone had posted a link in another thread but it is now dead. Thanks in advance, Jerry.

FYI, I typed in "348" & "major" and 17 threads came up and I read them ALL. There was only one with a link such as what I was seeking and it was dead. Am I excused??

Well I guess a little. But f.y.i. you do need to type in what your are looking for worded differently, if it doesn't come up the first way.

I stand corrected, there were only 16. Feel free to read through these and find the link! As you will see, thread #4 post #2 had a link posted by No Doubt, which, as I previously stated, is dead my friends. Now put that in your pipe and smoke it my kangaroo ownin', straw chewin, big knife totin, crazy hat wearin', strange accented friend from down under!! :) BTW, the fun has begun, I am well on my way so there's no turning back. Already snapped a bunch of pics. I'll post them along the way. This lift is kick ass!!

I have a hard copy of it that I printed out a few years back. It is a couple of pages long. PM me if you want me to send a copy of it in the mail. I don't have a scanner but I could fax it or take a high res. digital pic of it.

LOL Jimmie, there's actually some truth to that. He knew we were going to do it but he has no idea I've been working on it this weekend, I just got a bug in my ass to get started. Anyway, here is a before pic and oa couple more where I've got about everything disconnected and ready to drop the engine. Major oil leaks, the engine is filthy...this is going to be a great before and after. I am going to wait until Tuesday when I have some helpers as I have done everything alone so far. I'll update the pics on Tuesday (plus my wife is a little pissed that I'm at the office on X-Mas eve...imagine that!)

I've just done this in October 2006 on my UK RHD 348, if you PM me your e mail address I'll send you the extensive detailed list I made during and (edited to make more sense) after engine was back in. You would have to bear in mind your US spec and in particular the emmissions equipment differences.

Whole job took me four weeks because I was in no hurry, did some fastener and engine bay cosmetics and window winder black boxes en route and wanted the whole thing done right - Having had work done badly in the past on my 348 I had little trust in dealers, since experiencing this engine out task I would trust a dealers grease monkey apprentice even less!

My car ran immediately I turned the key after the operation and no oil leaks 'at all' since, so far so good.

Don't forget to check the seventh Fetzer valve. And get some fresh antifreeze, Prestone. No, better make that Quaker State!

Thanks Pap, it took about 7 hours from when I first started wrenching to dropping the engine. If I were to do it again, I think I could do it in 5, as there was a big learning curve. Nothing was difficult, just checking and double checking all my work and labeling all bolts and putting them in separate bags before proceeding to the next step. Thanks also for the link BTW, it has been spot on so far!
