The early 89 models did not have the seatbelt motors. Some Challenge models may not have...and the Competizione models did not.

They were for US cars only the feds required them inlieu of air bags. I think all years had them in the US. I guess someone out there with a '89 model could settle that quick enough.

Have a 89 model with regular seat belts. No mickey mouse tracks here. I think all 89 stamped models have regular seat belts.

1989 was the last year without passive restraints - either airbags or motorized seatbelts - so it should be the case that '89 MY cars were standard seat belts. 1990 through 1995 348's should have the mad mouse, 355's got airbags for the US in 1995.

    Cheers

...oh, and to set the record straight, the Ferrari motorized belts BLOW GOATS.

In my total crap-mobile Saturn SL1 (1993, 151xxx miles), the motorized belts still work perfectly. In my Ferrari, they are crap. I unplugged the under-seat connectors, removed the dash bulbs, and just gave up on that design.

As much as I'd like to blame Ferrari, I'm sure the whole design was contracted out to some provincial engineering company in the Piedmont. But then again, this is the same company who designed an emergency fuel door release handle inside the engine compartment, and an emergency engine compartment release inside the fuel door. BAAWAAAAA!

89 348 here with non motorized seat belts. Other differences (from what I have read) include a locking armrest storage compartment and seats with the bottom cushion stitched to the side bolsters at the top of the pad (a penny cannot slide next to the cushion). Also there is a radio antenna in the center of the roof section just behind the targa top. Rear suspension geometry is different, with a narrower track than later cars (although this continued until sometime in the 1991 model year)?
