I have been researching and reading so please bare with me for these questions.
I have a recently purchased 348 speciale and I love it. When it runs great it runs great. I have had CEL 5-8 lights since the first week intermittantly. the first time it came on, i actually lost the 5-8 bank. I reset the ECUs, checked the MAF and o2 sensors, ECU connections etc and it runs much much better, but I still get a CEL 5-8 light every time i warm the car up, it goes off after about 1-2 minutes of driving with no real change in performance. I am running test pipes with Tubi exhaust and have noticed the heavy smell of exhaust which i expect with the test pipes, but can the car be running too rich with this setup because at times the smell is overwhelming. Not a straight gasoline smell, but unburnt exhaust smell. The cam is advanced slightly which i understand can make it run like that, but i do not know how much and I am waiting on a reply from the mechanic that did the last cam setting.
Am I better to just live with the smell (I dont mind, but passengers do) or add cats back on or make a fuel setting adjustment somehow?

Secondly, i have a seatbelt mouse problem. Both belts have run fine until last week the drivers belt is stuck about 1/4 back from the most forward position. I think the floormat may have got caught under it, and since pulling it out, the mouse doesnt move at all. It occasionally will flinch, but I cannot get it to move at all either direction. I pushed the little release lever for the buckle and can slide that up, but cannot get the belt drive piece to move forward or backwards. Will unplugging the ECU help? Is there a way to get it to move all the way back and disable it so I just buckle and unbuckle it to get in and out? I posted this question elsewhere in the tech section with no replies.

thank you for your patience and help.

    Congratulations on your SS!

Did you pull Motronic codes when you reset the ECU's?

If someone intentionally set the cam timing at something other than factory specs, they deserved to get whacked in the head with a stupid stick. Just my opinion, but I really don't think that's a good idea.

I am running cat bypass pipes and a factory muffler and I have no additional smell over when I ran it with cats. Sounds like you may need some type of adjustment on your injection system.

I did pull the codes and got 4444 from both sides which i read is a "no error" code. I also unplugged the Cat ecu etc. Dont know if i have one ECU starting to go or not?
I may swap them and see if the error side changes or if its the o2 sensor itself.
I thought it smelled very rich, but was not sure.

The seatbelt problem is a common issue. I had mine repaired, and a week later it died again. To get it replaced at Ferrari it is something like $5700, so I thankfully and respectfully declined.

I do know of others who have disabled them, I am not sure how though, but if you try a search you should come up with a few results.

Congratulations on your purchase Paul, and welcome. Can you please tell us where you found your F-car and what other sources you may have used in your search?

    thanks

I had my timing advanced to the "Challeng setting. Which I believe may have been the same setting for the euro vesion of the 348. If fact, the cam pullies have the extra holes in them for this option. By advancing your timing you move your power band to a slightly higher rpm range. Your idle will have a slight extra rumble. All the challenge cars were set up this way.

The extra fuel smell may be normal. I have advanced timing and test pipes; and I too have a fairly strong fuel smell at cold start up inside the garage with the garage doors open. Much like a muscle car from the 60s (it's a wonderful smell that real men love). Once it has warmed up and moved out to the driveway, the smell is not noticeable. Does it still smell after she is warm waiting at a red light? If no, your probably fine; just my opinion.

As for the seatbelts, goodluck! I've been searching for a DIY repair for years. My briefcase strap got caught and jamb up the mouse too.

    Paul,
I think the best way to handle this is a test drive. When do I get to see the car man? As to the seat belts, I agree with the earlier post. Why fix this at all?

I tried the link several times and got a no results page, Ill do another search. thank you

Oh it rumbles all right. I believe this is what was done. It sounds like an ape on fire when you open it up. The start up and idle sound a bit angry actually, love it!

The car does smell up the garage like a muscle car, but i get a bit of it when i do stop at a light, traffic etc. That was my concern that the car is just running too much fuel or I have a bad MAF sensor? I may replace them this winter anyway just to be complete. Any other ideas?

Well lets go man! I need to fix the belt because it is in a bad position where I dont get any saftey from it as it is positioned very far forward and it wont protect me in a collision.

The mass air flow sensors are adjustable on our 348s. There is a very specific OHM reading they are supposed to be set at, I think it's 388. You need to double check. Find the thread here. it's easy to check across 2 pins at the electrical plugs. I checked mine a few years ago. Both were within 1 ohm. Takes about 5 minutes to check. No need to buy new.

Congrats on your 348 SS. I was actually going to buy one 2-3 days ago for 40 grand. I told the guy I would take it, and the guy sold it on me the next day. It was a 92 in black with a silver front grill marking it as the 25th SS made. What doesn't add up is 12 were made in 92 and 88 in 93. I even seen an SS listed as a 94. Something is messed up. Anyways, I am after a 355 now and have my eye on one. I know you from the Prowler forum. I sold my Inca Gold to get a Ferrari. I love the Prowler but the 6 cylinder was killing me.

Sorry you missed the speciale, its a fun car. I sold mine as well, maxed it out as far as I could go without being stupid. Love the 348, God Bless you Enzo!
I just looked at a GREAT 355 spyder red over tan, fresh major done last week at continental, 99 F1 with 22K on it near me. Asking 67 I think.
Let me know what you end up finding.

That would make sense. There is some misinformation online.

Strange - it worked when I first posted it, I even tried it before I posted. Oh well. In the search engine, type in "348 mouse seatbelt" (without the quotation marks) and you will get numerous results

Do you plan on hitting something? Why can't you just buckle it to the fixed male seat belt end on the seat? If you can't sort these things by yourself I think I gave you the number for my guys shop in St. Charles. Euroquipe (630) 377-3774. Will the car be ready for a Wednesday lunch run?

Can't you plug the shoulder belt into the bracket on the seat?

Yes I guess I could do that, but Id rather not submarine is possible if i hit something, and I really want to fix it. Drives me NUTS when something isnt right.
Does anyone have a photo of the seatbelt ECU where it is unplugged from? I have the console footwell panels off and Im not sure what I need to unplug.
    Thank you

I was under the impression that the bracket on the seat was for the shoulder belt in the event the mouse broke. Is that mistaken?
