The 30A fuse provides permanent 12V to the A/C control box (Pin 1) only for the purpose of maintaining the clock and the memory. The box comes "alive" when 12V is also switched "on" to Pin 3 by the ignition switch so the box needs both supplies to function properly. The pinout below shows how the power is connected to the A/C box (plus the pin for the heater water pump).

Yes, that's the main power fuse. Fuse 6 provides key power to the panel also.

You need to eyeball the 30 A fuse yourself.
It’s a phaff to remove the trunk lining to access and I suspect he ( your mechanic) can’t be arsed .

plenty of threads with pics on hear .

Under all this carefully push away and you will see it .

Most relocate it and use a different 30 A reset fuse . I placed mine by the AC dryer so I can click it back easily without the ball ache of dismantling the front of the car .

I only removed the trunk liner partially.
( took 5min) The fuse is on the right of the 2 green relays. My car is from 92, maybe its different from another yearbuild..
Anyway its still intact. Cant it be the relay instead of the fuse?

We’ve seen melted wires on the relay sockets, too.

Have you tried shaking the wiring at the back of the control panel?

It’s the fuse holder and it’s wires that burn …..loosing the connection leaving a intact fuse .

AC panels are junk and have long been a topic on this chat mine was so bad that I would get in the car and never knowing if it was going to work usually I could just slap the side of it and it would come back on. I recently found that every few months just by simply unplugging the main plug harness and plugging it back in I can get three or four months of trouble for use out of it worth a try it is a multi-pin connector. Easy access and can be done and situ just remove the passenger side kick panel
