    My 348 is noisy when its cold. I dont know how to explain the noise other than its pretty loud and sounds like an air compressor inside the engine compartment. As soon as the car warms up and drops to 1000rpms, the sound switches off. I have only had the car 3 months, is this normal?

    Could be the exhaust air injection system, working normally. Next time you start the car cold, listen around the air intake tubes on the side of the car, behind the rear quarter windows. If the noise is coming from that area, it's just the air injection. A thermoswitch shuts it off after the engine has begun to warm up.

    Of course it is normal. It is the air injection system, as indicated above.

    air injection system. If you listen to the intake directly you can hear it even more (ie stick your head down on the air intake behind the passenger or driver window and you will hear what I describe as a clapping sound).

    This is completely normal and is just a sign your emissions equipment is working right. :)

    Bingo!! That is the correct explaination! I had asked a mechanic about that once.
