    Good morning all. I went to start the 348 yesterday. Battery is on trickle feed so full battery. Thurman the key, ignition lights draw power so I know that is right but no turnover of the engine. Checked and cleaned connections at starter motor. I am sure that I read that this is a common problem on 348’s and that there is some kind of relay addition to the starter motor but I cannot seem to find the posts agsin. Has anyone else had this problem and what did you do to solve the problem. Any help appreciated - thank you.

    You're saying the lights dim when you turn the key to START (as if the starter is drawing current)? Just sounds like the starter solenoid is stuck. Hit the starter with a rubber mallet.

    There are no relays (unless your car has been modified). Do you have an aftermarket immobiliser?

    What year is your car? On most cars, there is a fragile circular connector on the left hand side of the engine bay which can cause starter and other issues. The later car had a rectangular plug.

    Look for 12 volts on the white wire ("2.5B") when trying to crank the engine.

    Thanks for your reply. Tried knocking the solenoid. The lights slightly dim on the dash.
    There is an after market immodliser. 1993 is the year

    Probably best to confirm 12 volts on that white wire. That will tell you if the signal is getting to the starter.

    A 1993 car may have a rectangular plug on the left hand side of the engine bay (which is more reliable). I'm not sure of the changeover date.

    If you have a round type, check for loose or contaminated pins or broken wires. Pin 8 is the starter wire.

    If your car has been fitted with the relay posted above there is a fuse with it that can blow creating what you describe. It happened to mine. Something to check and easy to correct if it is the cause.

    Batteries can go bad even while on a charger. Dead cell etc. Before going to crazy..swap in a known good battery.

    What is the voltage of the battery right now with charger off for 1 hr.?
