not sure there was such a thing as an oem fit 348 radio, maybe there were models that were 'typically' fitted by dealers in specific regions.

Mine has a Sony (US). It is the same one I've seen in multiple 348's. Due to that, I made the assumption it was a factory radio. If someone else doesn't get to it first I'll upload a photo of it when I get back in town in about a week.

I could be wrong, but I saw many years ago a Clarion tape deck that was 'factory' for the Euro spec cars. Saw pics and read about here on Ferrari Chat.

My car has a Sony Xplode CD player and stacker fitted. Don't know who fit it, but it must have been done in the late 90's or early 2000's when everyone was fitting that Sony Xplode rubbish to their cars.

After seeing which one I needed for my car, I found one like this one.

Hoping it's the right one to suit my Euro spec car. The person who sold it to me was wrecking his 348 in France from memory so I bought it off him for around US $150 years ago.

I haven't got around to fitting it yet. Here is a pic of the one that was fitted to the Euro spec cars apparently and I found the exact same one for my car.

Again, not 100% sure if this is the correct radio for the Euro cars but I will go with it from what I saw and read years ago. :D

I believe this answer to be correct. I'm the original owner of mine and was informed by the dealer that the car didn't come with the radio and they suggested a certain brand for them to install. I took them up on that suggestion and had a Sony installed. I regret that decision to this day as I am quite the purest and feel bad that I adulterated the car.

I had mine from new and they did not come with a radio. They were pre-wired for a radio and antenna.

If I remember correctly, it came with door speakers as well.

This is the radio that is in the 348 that should be mine and isn't. hahaha.... CDX-7540

I used to have cassette version of this same radio in my Corrado VR6 back in the mid-1990s too....

I actually think I have one of this same model in my garage stash somewhere....

This looks like the unit that's in a '99 355 I have now, but I can't remember if it's labeled Sony or F.

Are these on a separate circuit from the ignition? When I shut off the car, remove keys, open the doors - the stereo remains powered. Good for listening to tunes in the garage but easy to leave on. Normal?

So does one of you guys recall how you installed the radio?
I looked at the spot where you would place the radio and it has a leather backside that i think you have to take out. Just want to make sure I don't scratch or break it in attempting toi take it out.

Mike, I was talking about the radio compartment which is covered by a leather cover in the cars that don't come with a radio apparently. I managed to remove it now, if you are flexible enough you can reach through the whole right next to the gas pedal and push it out by removing the two little hooks on the left and right side. The next problem for someone who has no clue about electronics now will be to connect the radio to the socket. Does one of you know if there is some kind of adapter available or will i have to solder the wires and get rid of the not matching socket?[IMG][IMG][IMG]

I was just curious what the blanking plate looks like since I don't think I've ever seen one. Glad you figured out how to remove it-- what you did was what I was going to suggest assuming the blanking plate looked as I expected.

As for the wiring, you should cut off the plug with at least 50 mm of wire remaining and send it to me. I will pay you for it. ;)

Seriously, I'd love to have one because a PO of my car had a system installed by someone who cut off the factory plug and threw it away. :(

To integrate the wiring correctly you have a few choices. You can obviously just snip and remove the factory connector. If your car is far from original that might be a decent option. In which case, my offer is quite serious-- I'd love to have your old plug.

Or you can source terminals that will fit those inside the factory plug and make a jumper harness to go between it and the plug on the head unit. Presumably the head unit came with a mating connector so all you'll have to do is solder terminals to it and heat shrink them. That is the tidiest and least intrusive method.

Or you can de-pin the factory connector and solder wires directly to the factory terminals. There should be a spot between the part that plugs into the plastic connector and the wiring insulation that is large enough to wrap a couple of turns of wire around and then hit it quickly with some solder. It's not as tidy as the above method but it still allows you to refit the factory connector in the future.

So you have various options-- simple and direct, but not OE (with me offsetting some of your cost by buying your old connector), tidy and original, but requiring some parts sourcing, or down-'n'-dirty but still returnable to stock in the future.

The wire color codes are shown in the factory schematic so you shouldn't have any trouble matching them up. If you don't have a factory schematic let me know.

FWIW, I wouldn't expect a lot out of the system if you're planning on using the head unit's internal amp. They just don't make enough power to perform well in a car, no matter how many watts of output they claim. It is possible to stash a decent quality amp inside the center console with no modification to the car, although it requires some fabrication. I have spent dozens of hours analyzing the best means of non-intrusively installing a quality audio system in the 348 and will provide more details if you're interested.

    HTH.

Hi Mike, wow thanks a lot! Do you have the factory schematic for me maybe? I'll ask a friend who is handy with electronics and if he thinks cutting the connector is the bet option I will gladly sell the old one to you.
