Is it best to warm the engine before changing the oil?

Just remember you have to remove an inverted oil filter that will be full of hot oil. Wait awhile before you remove it, and have lots of rags standing by. The O2 sensor connectors are directly underneath and I found out that they don't like to be soaked in oil.

I put a rag underneath the oil filter as I am loosening it to catch any oil spill.

I take an old ice pick and put a hole in the filter and allow it to drain before removing it. If you are using a filter with a standpipe like the UFI it still helps IMHO. Remove it carefully and you wont get a mess.

For the filters without a standpipe it allows the filter to completely empty before you remove it.
