I have a 1991 348ts, beautiful car in silver. I have been looking at the Maserati spyders with the F1 trans. I know the car is newer but i'm not sure about the performance compared to the 348. Any info would be great. I just don't know if I should do it, I love the 348!

I think you really need to ask yourself. Do I want a sports car or a GT? Both are great cars just very different.

Isn't the Maserati considered a sports car? I know the engine's up front but is the performance that different? I guess I have to drive a Maserati to really see.. Thanks

I owned a 2004 Maserati Spyder and it was a great car - excellent exhaust note and the 4.2-liter, Ferrari-built engine was a thing of beauty. My only disappointment was the programming for the cambiocorsa (ie, F1 type) transmission because shifting was very slow compared to my current F1 car, which is a 1999 F355 GTS. So, as stated in the post above, it's really a matter of what you're looking for. Both Maserati and Ferrari always draw crowds, so in that respect, they're both exotic.

Here's my situation Chris, I like to drive my cars everyday. I drive them rain, snow, whatever. Given my current income I can only afford to own 1 exotic car under $100,000. I picked a 2002 Maserati Spyder and daily drove it and now I have a 2006 Coupe GT that I daily drive. The car is wicked fun, reliable, practical, fast, and fun to drive.

So my take on it, if you want a car you can drive anywhere get the Maserati. If it's going to be a weekend car get the Ferrari because it truly is a little more special. I will continue to own a Maserati until I can open my budget up to about $150k and that's when I will get a Maserati Coupe for the week and an F355 for the weekends.

I know someone with a '90 348 and when we go on drives he can't keep up
with my 02 Maserati GT Coupe. Granted the technology and age difference, but I also have a '74 Dino GT4 that gives his 348 a run, as well.

As much as I love the F cars, FWIW go for the Maser....

Something to consider is that 348's have hit bottom. And the Maseraties have a horrible resale value. Or rather no resale value at all. Not sure why, they are great cars.

I bought my 02 Spyder for $60k, doubled the mileage and sold it for $52.5k that's not bad at all. Consign it to an authorized dealer and you'll be suprised how quick it sells, the independents and non authorized dealers have trouble moving them.

The initial resale hit is bad if you pay sticker but nobody pays sticker.

Thanks for the input. I want to drive one to see how it is. I just really want an F1 trans & the 360 is out of reach right now. Thanks again.
