What do you guys think of this? http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/FERRARI-348-PARTING-OUT_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQ_trksidZp3286Q2ec0Q2em14QQhashZitem1c0be2d061QQitemZ120458498145QQptZMotorsQ5fManualsQ5fLiterature
Something is just not right here. Less than 6K miles, looks fairly clean, runs and shifts well but he is selling for parts only. I would be careful about this one.
To me, if it's for "parts only", that means he doesn't have a title for it, and he doesn't have enough documentation to GET a title for it. How it got to that point, I don't know. Maybe he won it in a card game. I've got a feeling he isn't selling the steering column, or any other part with the VIN number on it.
If he is parting this car out, then what are you bidding on? That makes no sense. Is he just using eBay as a way to advertise it? Also, look at the categories he has it listed under. Strange. If you are the winning bidder, what is going to be left if he is selling parts off of it? And no pics of the interior either? None of this adds up.
Sure it does, guys who part out cars do it all the time. Would cost a fortune to list 500 parts separate. So they list the car with a huge reserve so it won't be won and hope that people email them off Ebay to make deals on certain parts...
I figured it had to be something like that. The whole deal still does not make much sense. If he was going to use ebay to advertise it, then why does he place it in such strange categories? Why not list in under parts? I guess I am missing something here but it wouldn't be the first time.
I don't think this guy has any intentions of saving this car. There is a reason for that but we can only guess what it is. I would think that he would be better off (with much less hassle) just putting the car up as is to sell. But if he does not have the title, then that is not an option.
He may feel he can get more for the car by parting it out. He could be right, but that would be a shame unless there are other issues that just can't be resolved.
Has anyone actually bought anything from these guys? There is a part that I need for my 355 and it's just stupidly priced brand new.
Could this be a Serie Speciale? Hard to tell from the photo, but it looks like rather than missing the rear grill it has a Speciale rear grill. It does not have Speciale CF seats, but the 15 Speciale cars imported in 1994 did not have the Speciale seats. All of that is consistent with it being a 1994 Speciale, and if it really is a 1994 ts, then it has to be a Speciale. If so, then the wider offset rear wheels, the exhaust, the transaxle with the Speciale gearing, etc. would all be "upgrades" for people with non-Speciale cars. Aren't there one or two of the 15 U.S. 1994 Speciales that are not accounted for in the various registries that people have compiled? If this is a Speciale it would be a real shame to see it dismantled and parted out.
The guy called me today. He said it was a Serie Speciale. I told him I wanted to see the car. He said the car is in Cummimg Ga. He wanted to know what parts I needed. I told him a seat part. What seat part (he said) I told him I could not describe it I would have to see if it was the same as a spider since he had a Speciale. He was going to be out of town several days & I may be able to see the car Thur. Fri. or next week. I don't think he wants anyone see it but I could be wrong. I guess I'll see later this week or next.
