    Interesting article in the latest liftout issue of "Unique Cars" magazine entitled 'Market Review' written by noted auto journalist, Cliff Chambers. In his review of the 348 he says, Quote:
    "Ferrari's revamped 3.4 litre models lose out in the looks department to the 328 they replaced and resale values suffer as a result. Coupe versions of the chunky Ferrari are on offer for around $125,000 - just ten per cent more than the earlier 328GTS. Targa-top 348ts versions with ultra-low kilometres and priced at up to $150,000 are faring better but feeling pressure from the better-looking and more powerful F355. Average prices of vehicles surveyed were $131,500 for the 348tb and $140,855 for the 348ts".Unquote.
    Chambers also states that sale prices will usually be 10-15 per cent lower than the asking price.
    Harsh words indeed on the 348. What are the F-Chatters experiences/thoughts re the above critique? Are the quoted selling prices realistic in Oz? From what I've noted lately, 348 prices range from $115,000 to $164,500. Does this mean one could pick up a nice 348tb for around $120,000 or less! And what about the local delivery versus import argument regarding prices?

    Was that the one at Brisbane Prestige Cars with around 65K on the speedo? Did anyone ever see it and check out its worth?

    The $164,000 is a 348ts currently for sale at Croydon Motor Gallery in Sydney - overpriced in my opinion (have viewed it).

    And Zakeen, how come you haven't purchased a 348 as yet. You've been looking for one quite a while now.

    I do not think the author is on the money with this one (too much wacky tobbacky).

    Galleria Veloce -> $145,000
    Private (p 117) -> $139,000
    Private (p 139) -> $160,000

    October
    Mosman -> $129,000 (TB)
    Prestige Formula -> $149,990
    Sydneys American Imports -> $135,000

    Carsales.com.au
    $160,000
    $143,000
    $147,000
    $149,000

    Drive.com.au
    $149,000
    $164,900
    $145,000
    $160,000

    I would personally love to see them at $115,000. What a buy. But realistically I can see them sitting around $130,000 (if they even drop that low) for at least the next 12mths.

    I just love the 348tb price at $105,000 in the guide. This guy is on crack. Its rediculous and so poorly researched. A 40k testa rossa? LOL... Have not seen any ever under 140k but usually around 150k. A S4 Esprit for 18k? Come on.. I will have two of those...

    The best:
    LP400 Countach -> 90k.

    I will take 5 of them thanks!

    Personally, if I had around $125,000 to spend on a sports car, I'd buy a used BMW E46 M3 SMGII. If I was going to spend around $200,000 I'd get an F355.

    The M3s are nice Admiral. Always liked them, but for 120k I would have to have myself an F-car.

    Admiral, i like your taste in cars, but i'll have my M3 with the classic gearbox.

    I would love to try both the SMG and standard gearbox in the M3 just for curiousity, could possibly be swayed.

    Its definetly going to be interesting how prices of 348's and particularly the 355 are effected with the 430's release, I predict their will be many more of these models gracing the roads (less low-mileage owners).

    Just my thoughts!

    Holy cow. I'd sell my car for $125K AUD, and include the shipping for free.

    Looking for the right one I guess.

    The one for $115,000 in brissy I was meant to get, but it was sold a day before I booked my ticket down to have a final look at it. Im from Cairns. I must travel over 2000kms to see the closest 348. I have time to wait and dont want to buy a lemon.

    Almost bought this 348, I would make an offer over the phone without looking at one, just with the service history and a ferrari check. But this guy wouldnt send me a service history. And then I finally got him to send it. It was a import from Hong Kong, which I asked twice and he did not answer the question. The car had a speedo replaced - which I thought was a bit strange!!!!! and it only had 24,000kms done and it had two(2) clutches changed!!!! who drives 24,000kms and replaces two clutches?!?!?! So it made sence about the speedo change which means the number of kms is incorrect. Car had about 7 owners, where he said only 3. Makes you wonder about imports!!!!!!!!!!!

    But I leave to go to spain next month for about 8 months so I think I might wait untill I get back.

    Is that the 348tb for sale on CarSales.com and Unique Cars - location says Cornubia, Queensland and the asking price is $147,000? And why did the 348ts at Brisbane Prestige Cars sell for only $115,000?

    Thats the car, its not a bad car. John Ferrari(where ever that is) says its a nice car. But I dont know why he(owner) would miss lead me. Serivce history is a bit strange, I think its really got about around 15,000 more kms on it. Had heaps of different owners. but the two clutch replacement is a bit strange for the amount of kms he says it has. I would still buy it at the right price, but I think he is asking way to much. Down side of buying it would be, finding a buyer. I dont think it would sell.

    Now the $115,000 348 was for $119,000 for a quick sale! it got the sale to some guy in Sydney(which I missed), car was sent and the guy finance crashed and the car was stuck there. The owner thought he would leave the car down in Sydney for it to be sold at 124,900. Never sold. I was overseas and couldnt look at it. Then it was sent back to Brissy. and price droped to $115,000. I had a bike race(2 weeks) and planned to go after to buy it. I missed it by a day!

    Car had 60,000kms on it, so thats why I thought a cheap sale.

    I dont know what it was sold for, owner was called Brad #######, who I beleive owns Brisbane Prestige Cars. He really wanted it sold, it was a TS I think maybe for $113,000-$114,000.

    Now there is a very very nice 348 somewhere in SA. The owner lives in the middle no where. about 800kms from closest Airport. He has had it on the market for almost a year. No rush to sell, I think he has to much money. Name is Lenni, I think.

    Car has also 60,000kms on it.

    But its a TB. which is normally cheaper then the TS, so for the money he is asking $143,000, I think its a bit to much. You can buy something cheaper from a dealer with lower kms.

    I dont like buying from a dealer.

    There is this one other, its blue $118,000, never really looked into that one, I dont want a blue.

    Oh yeah, a yellow TS has just been traded, he said he would take $125,000 for it, forgot where, but it had a repaint, so I was a bit stand offish and dont really want a yellow one.

    I have to go to Spain in Jan so I might buy one when I return, hopefully the 430, will make 360 owners trade and 355 owners trade for a 360 and same for the 348s and then I could get a nice one at around $125,000.

    I will pay what I think they are worth, I will pay $115k for high kms and up to $140k for a low kms in great condition.

    There is often a big difference between the asking price and the sale price on Ferrari's, the market is very thin and cars can take a long time to sell. In most cases it's a buyers market for these cars and will get more so in the next 12 months or so.

    348's generally are hard to sell due to the poor reliability reputation with the early cars. I know of a 348 that required a gearbox repair that was sold for well under 100K, with the repair done it would have cost the new owner 100K all up.

    328 pricing is quite solid, with cars selling between 80K and 115K, these are easy cars to sell.

    355 prices start at around 155K for an early coupe with high mileage, and a late spyder would struggle anywhere past 250K. The price on 355's has been under pressure recently as 430 deliveries are getting closer and there has been a large number (20)recently imported cars available through one of the Sydney dealers. 355's are quite easy to sell ( at the right price) as it's widley regarded as a trouble free car
    Private imports are usually worth less than Aussie delivered cars, the reason is that many imported cars have had a hard life / no verifiable service history / come from rusty environments such as the UK or the tropics.

    However, remember that some cars like the Testarossa, are all private imports as they were never officially available in Oz, although some were "arranged" through the importer.

    Also, cars also change hands quietly through FCA club members or other word of mouth channels, often the sellers want to remain discreet and the cars are never advertised.
    If you are seriously in the market I can put you in touch with a broker who is quite active in the market place

    Cheers
    Michael

    You must also remember that these prices probably don't include stamp duty generally. It would be appreciably less to purchase a 348 in Queensland than in the stamp duty rip-off State of NSW. I believe stamp duty in NSW is 3% of purchase price up to $45,000 and then 5% on the amount over $45,000. Qld has a flat stamp duty rate of 2% of total purchase price. Don't know about the other States. Therefore a F-car purchased in NSW for a cheap asking price could end up costing you more than buying a dearer one in Qld. Don't know how to overcome this?
