I believe the rubber gasket ring around the thermostat provides the seal necessary. No paper gasket req'd.

Hi John. Thanks for the reply. It’s weird cause on my 308 there is a rubber ring and a gasket for the housing. So clearly they changed it.

Also weird cause on the super performance website they have a gasket. Perhaps later 348s introduced a gasket.

I did put a little silicone on the housing. Seems like the PO did this also, as it distorted the rubber ring when I removed it.

Onto the fuel filters. The instructions I read suggested undoing the bracket holding the filter first before trying to get the lines undone.

There are drain plugs in each radiator and freeze plugs on either side of the block. The freeze plugs are not easy to get to. I went to flush my coolant and found I had a leaky right radiator so I drained both radiators and the freeze plugs. I replaced the right radiator, refilled and bled the system. You will find threads on running the engine on a garden house stuffed into the reservoir with radiator plugs out to flush the system. The coolant that I drained out tested fine and was only 1.5 years old so I didn’t go to that extreme. I just drained as much as I could and refilled.

Thanks Aaron. Would it be possible for you to describe where the block drain plug(s) are ? Or maybe a picture ?

My goal here is to just replace the coolant. When doing so are you supposed to drain the small radiator via its drain plug ? In my car this seems like a major piece of work, as the oil radiator would have to get dismantled. Not sure if this is just my car. Perhaps the previous owner didn’t install the oil radiator correctly. For me, if would be quicker to pull the pipe that try and get that drain plug out.

The plugs to drain the block are in the side of it. they're brass and use an allen socket. Coolant everywhere. Wear a trash bag and gogs. Arrgh.

I’m a little behind on my posting here.

IIRC I got bored of working on the fuel filter so decided to drain the oil.

Pic here is the oil container and the 19mm bolt that comes off the bottom.

Tried to get the oil filter off using my strap wrench. Wasn’t moving....

Also tried my 308 special oil filter wrench, but the 348 has a different size so that didn’t work either.

Have to bit the bullet and buy a 348 wrench.
