in a few years i will be hopefully purchasing my first ferrari, and i've always loved the 348 i guess because it's the first ferrari i ever got a ride in and it's burned in my memory forever. Now i've always wanted a project car, so here is what i'm thinking, in canada we can import any 15 year old car, so i will find the rattiest 348 out there, something with very high mileage, paint doesn't matter, leather doesn't matter as i'll cover the seats with our company leather like we did my cousin's vette and magnum. So i'm sure in 2 years i can find a 348 for low 30's to high 30's, take out the motor, sell it, sell teh wheels, and all misc parts, and find a totalled 360 or stradale and snatch that motor and custom fab some motor mounts and fit it in the 348 and call it a day, swap the brakes over also, so i'd still have an true sports car with no power steering and no nonsense experience, with a lot of performence.

What do you guys think of this project?

Well I think your a bit coocoo, but if it works out it'll be pretty cool. I have seen a 308 that had a 355 engine stuffed in the back, and another one with a V12, yes that's right a V12 in the back, so it just depends on you. If you have the funds and the time go for it. But it's not gonna be easy or cheap. I think a '95 355 engine would be an easier swap. But for the money your gonna spend doing the swap, you may as well just buy a 355 and then just change the door intakes fron and rear bumps to 348 parts. You will have to modify the door intakes to accomodate the 355 door lever. But all in all I still think the whole thing is a bit coocoo. Why not just by the 348, that is for sale right now, with twin turbos putting out over 500hp? That would be your best route if you want the styling and power combo.

I think that finding a cosmetically ratty 348 and fixing it up is fine. Swapping motors, no way. If you want bigger performance then I would recommend upgrading the intake etc.. like Andyhls has done. 400+ hp and a nitrous shot on top of that. Stock 89 348 motor block etc... Sounds like you have great enthusiasm which you will need to accomplish this goal. In a few years I am sure you can find a ratty looking 348 for high 30's. Someone here (348_project_car) bought a really beat up 348 a few months ago for around $10k (but it did run). I would follow his tales to see how it works out.

well doing the 355 motor wouldn't be such a big difference i find, or not special enough since the 355 is an evolution of the 348 and would be relatively easy, i have 6 months of snow and cold, plenty of time to fabricate and make some parts, i have friends who have done motor swaps so we can take our time, send the body to body shop while we figure out what to do with the rest of the car, my uncle just bought a 360 spider and getting his 430 soon, they're fun cars, don't get me wrong, but i like the different cars, stuff that's out of the ordinary, don't care about resale as this would be a keeper for sure, where can i find some stradale motors or basic 360 motors? thanks

To get the engine in is not the problem that will fit with some smaller modifications. But the gearbox is a problem. The 360 has the clutch between engine and gearbox the 348 behind the gearbox. That cost me some years of life to get a solution to assemble a engine wich is not made for that special clutch position to the gearbox. Because the input shaft spline of the gearbox is in the crankshaft of the 348. So you will need an adapter from the bolt pattern of the 360 engine to this spline. That is not a big problem if there wouldn't be some detail .. i don't find a company wich can made this special spline its no sae or din spline. My solution was to buy an 348 crankshaft and cut the spline pice out of it and screw it on a adapter plate to the crankshaft. Then you also need a spacer between engine and gearbox to get the space this part needs. And then it will work. You maybe also can get the 360 gearbox in and adapt the driveshafts of it ... but i don't like the f1 shifting and you also need a new steering wheel center console ...
